Murderverse Falls
"But we should be investigating right now-"

Anya pats Eki's back. "Relax, Eki! Don't get yourself in a bind tryin' to figure out this mystery! C'mon! Let's eat! I could go for some fluffy pancakes right now."

"...Well, I am a bit hungry. Let's see what they have."
CHALLENGE TIME! You have three days to complete the challenge.

Grunkle Ed comes in. Hey! Anybody know anything about a giant water guinea pig?

The Mysterious Capybara Challenge:
A capybara has appeared from, er, nowhere that you can see anyway. And it's not native to the American Northwest. Maybe it's escaped from a zoo? Probably? Help Ed, Booker, and Mavis deal with this cute, cuddly, large, water-loving mammal.

1. Yeah, we need to actually contain the capybara. It's swimming in the river, now. What are you going to do?
2. Aww! The capybara looks like she's pregnant. I think we'll need to make a suitable location for the mama capybara to give birth. And we're gonna need some capybara food, she's going to be hungry.
3. Where did the capybara come from? Do your best to help figure out where this capy came from and where she and her little ones should be returned to, presumably.

"Awwww. she's so cute!! But yeah we better get her home."
Stupid doomed timeline...
Yeah.

Booker smiles, and shyly pats the capybara on the nose.

OH! OH, THAT'S SO CUTE! And- Okay, Catar. Focus. You're used to putting cargo in places- tracking down where this cargo came from might be complicated, and... well, there's the whole thing that it's alive. Ah well.

Live Cargo Handling 101
1. Well, swooping in and grabbing it isn't an option if you want to do this with a modicum of ethics (you are after all, probably a giant oversized eagle) to the capybara). This will require finesse. And food. You're not sure what this thing is exactly, but you're pretty sure it's a chill kind of creature, so maybe a few vegetables could attract it over. See if there's anything from the cookout or stuff that you can probably pay for in town.
2. While you're at it, you might as well... try to construct something. The food's already dealt with- you should probably buy that in bulk, since you don't know the exact size of this creature's litter. You can... just sweep a bunch of branches together. This is not really the most thought out part of this plan.

Catar feels like a dove, making up a particularly messed up nest.
[Image: IMG_2591.jpg?ex=651460e3&is=65130f63&hm=...3e0ac4619&]
3. While you're in town buying food, you might as well try to get information on the wider area of the place surrounding this cozy (and somewhat murderous) place. Ask around, check a map or two. Who knows, maybe there really is a zoo around where this capybara belongs to?

it is me. awe921, the greatest face in all of koridai
Catar has earned a 1 on the first task, a 3 on the second task, and a 2 +2 for stubbornness and quick learning on the third task, giving her a score of 8

Rounding up the capybara goes disastrously. Apparently she really, really, doesn't like the taste of the food Catar is trying to lure her with.

Making a nest only goes a little bit better. It's not very soft and cozy, and the capybara is not inclined to bed down in it. It gets scattered all over. And again, the capybara isn't too happy with the food.

It takes Catar a lot of effort, but luckily she's stubborn and isn't going to give up. She finally finds the owners of the capybara after calling and asking around all day. Well, capybaras, now. Look at that, the little ones are nursing. :3

"I heard about these things, but i never saw one in person."

Gooble and the Capybara
1. Gooble will gather up something the capybara likes to eat, like vegetables, fruits, or leaves. Then he can ride a boat and use the food to lure the capybara into dry land and a safe place. If there's no boat, he could take a dip.

2. Gooble will set up some kind of nest or shelter made of materials, like leaves, twigs and even spare cloth for shade for the capybaras. He could also look for spare pillows for cushion for the capybaras. Maybe Gooble could ask the others to help make the shelter. As for the food, he could get more plant matter.

3. Gooble could ask the townsfolk or people familiar with the place. "Are there any zoos around? Have you ever seen capybaras in this area before?" Those sorts of questions. Maybe he could also turn into a hawk or falcon and scout the greater area for places that might store animals that don't belong.

Hiiii!
Gooble has rolled a 7, a 2, and a 4+1 for shapeshifting, giving him 14 points.

The capybara seems to like the food this time, and Gooble does find a boat to use. Works pretty well!

This must be a picky capybara. Even with the shade cloth and soft cushions, she's hesistating to bed down. Maybe it's the food? She doesn't seem to like this food as much as the food Gooble gave her before.

Gooble's friendly demeanor gets people talking, and his ability to scout things out from the sky is handy. His eagle eyes find the trail the capybara made. It's not easy, but eventually she, and her little ones, find home again.

Adrianna kicks open the door. Or, if the door's already open, pretends to do so.
Is everyone ready for a SPE-
She's cut off by Grunkle Ed's news of an escaped capybara, and stares blankly at it before thinking of a plan.
Well, well, well. It looks like we have a special guest of honour...

Adrianna Capybara Shenanigans
1. Yeah, we need to actually contain the capybara. It's swimming in the river, now. What are you going to do?
Not enough time for a dam, not even a temporary one...
If it's escaped and not native, best guess is it's tame enough to lure over with some food in hand.
After looking up what capybaras eat, Adrianna takes a quick look around for suitable; if there's nothing, she improvises with some grass plucked out of the ground.
2. Aww! The capybara looks like she's pregnant. I think we'll need to make a suitable location for the mama capybara to give birth. And we're gonna need some capybara food, she's going to be hungry.
While leading the capybara around, she tries to find/get directions to a securely fenced-in place. Failing that, she tries to find someone open to allowing the rodent to borrow their garden (which presumably has/can have fences around it).
Adrianna buys a load of fruit and veg for the capybara. If anyone asks, it's for a pet rabbit show.
3. Where did the capybara come from? Do your best to help figure out where this capy came from and where she and her little ones should be returned to, presumably.
Adrianna looks up a quick list of zoos and other places the capybara could've come from, and phones each one in turn until she either runs out or finds the one the capybara escaped from.

What else needs saying?
TRIPLE STAR
That's what you are.
Amazing!

It takes a couple tries, but you do manage to lure the capybara over with the grass. (Rolled 5.)

You have to ask around a fair bit but you do find a nice fenced in area, and hopefully enough fresh produce to keep her going through her labor. (Rolled 5.)

Hmm, you have trouble finding her owner off of the list in Grunkle Ed's cabin; it seems a bit out of date. And you're not getting a good signal to find it on the Internet. Eventually though, after asking around among the locals, you find out where the capybara came from and get someone to come collect her and the new babies. Aww. (Rolled 3.)

Adrianna has scored 13 points.
Stupid doomed timeline...
Grunkle Ed comes up to the new arrival. Well, I appreciate jumpin' right in there! You're... Adrianna? I think we spoke on the phone, we had another unexpected open cabin. For the rest of you, Aya had to leave, and I believe the lady here will be taking her cabin.

Oooh, a capybara... my mum has a pet like this back in Bigtown! I wonder if I could teach it skateboards...

Jimothy, focus! You've got a job to do!

Capybara Mission Time!
1: Well, Jimothy can't swim... so this is going to be particularly tough! Maybe try coaxing it out with... friendly-sounding noises? Tasty-looking grass? Something along those lines should work.

2: ... Grunkle Ed, do you have a spare paddling pool? Given these things seem to like water... Presumably, Ed will try and get Jimothy to pay for one. And when he succeeds in doing so, Jimothy will also gather some wood from the... woods, to make a makeshift fence near the guest cabins. Then he'll just... start gathering leaves? A capybara's a vegaterian, right? A wheelbarrow of leaves should be fine...

3: Well, given that Jimothy's "definitely not" here to catalogue Earth's creatures and defences, Jimothy will "definitely not" use tracking skills to follow the capybara's path to here... he'll just... "go with his gut". Sure.

hey who turned out the lights?
Jimothy rolls a 7, an 8, and a 4+1 for 'totally normal human' senses and technology for tracking abilities. Totally normal. This leaves him with a total of 20 points.

Jimothy seems pretty good at imitating a friendly capybara noise and finding tasty grass the capybara actually wants to eat. That's not freaky at all. He must've run into some in his... travels. For skateboarding tournaments.

He's also pretty successful at making the capybara feel at home and ready to bed down, with water in a paddling pool (Ed isn't even going to charge him for it), a wooden fence to keep her from wandering away, and some leaves good for munching and laying in.

And Jimothy's completely normal senses and totally human technology are able to help him track where the capybara came from. It's not that easy, but it does work.

"A... capybara? Uh... I remember reading about them one night. They're extinct in my time period." The urge to pet the capybara is so strong right now. But Eki doesn't want to spook the cabybara away and embarrass themself in front of everyone. Must not pet the rodent...

Here comes Anya. "WOAH! You're SUPER cute, not-so-little rodent!" She rushes up to the capybara and pets it. "Boop! Hehehe!"

Screw it, Eki thinks. The temptation is irresistible at this point. "H-HEY! Let me have a turn!" They approach the capybara, and gently stroke her chin. Eki knows this is probably poor judgement on their part, but there are things you can't turn down. Like petting an extinct animal.

Extinct Animal Care With Eki (feat. Anya Wannai)
  1. Eki assumes responsibility for recovering the cabybara. Trying to pluck the cabybara out of the water with their bare hands would be reckless. They will have to approach this carefully. Eki may be wrong since all their knowledge of cabybaras comes from an article they read one day, but they're herbivorous, right? Using some fresh grass, Eki will try luring the aquatic rodent onto dry land.
  2. Oh dear. Not only is this capybara pregnant, but it's about to go into labor. Using some sticks, Eki fences off a fertile spot near the camp for the capybara. Does Grunkle Ed have any spare bedsheets? If so, then Eki will borrow some to make a comfy nest for the cabybara to give birth. They'll also set aside a dish of water for her. As for food, Eki will search the woods for more grass, alongside a bunch of leaves. That should be enough.
  3. While Eki is busy tending to the capybara, Anya will venture into town to figure out where it came from. She'll ask the locals for clues, and check if there's any zoos and nature preserves nearby. Hopefully the townsfolk will be cooperative and not obsess over her pointy ears and tail or pedal outrageous conspiracy theories at her. Anya will also scout the area with her skysail, checking for any signs of other capybaras and/or cabybara owners. She better not be accused of spying on this town.

The article Eki read had some good information, and they are easily able to lure the capybara out of the water with the grass. (Rolled 8 +1 for knowledge retention for a total of 9.)

Grunkle Ed is not about to give up bedsheets for this without getting some extra money out of it, and Eki doesn't seem to have the cash with them, so the nest is lacking. They also can't find enough grass or leaves that the capybara wants to eat so the whole labor takes, er, a lot of labor. (Rolled 1.)

This goes much better; Anya is charismatic enough that the townspeople (who've seen stranger anyway) point her in the direction of some likely places. With the help of her skysail she easily locates the capybara's home. (Rolled 8, +1 for charisma and +1 for skysailing skills for a total of 10.)

Eki and Anya have a total of 20 points.

You manage to put together an effective net/lacrosse stick. The capybara is a bit heavy but the moth silk holds the thing together long enough to get her out of the water. (Rolled 6 +1 for use of moth silk for a total of 7.)

Hmm, the townspeople don't really pay as much attention to your posters as you'd hoped so it takes quite some time to find their homes. On the upside, you didn't get carpal tunnel? (Rolled 2.)

1. Time to get in my swimwear. No need to have any tight clothing slowin' me down. I can swim freely and use my muscle to wrestle the capybara until she's unconscious. But pull her our quick before she drowns.

2. I'll pull her outta the water to the open area on the outskirts of town. Then I'll just go around and see what the town has. Pretty sure there's somethin' edible for capybaras. Browse around, buy somethin', maybe haggle a bit. I'm sure there's somethin' the animal can eat.

3. Man, I ain't no National Geographic expert. I'll look online and find out where they typically reside. Then I'll scout out the area. Pretty sure I'll find her home eventually.
I like bananas. They're yellow.
Mindy has rolled an 8+1 on the first task for fighting/brawling experience, an 8 on the second task, and a 10 on the third, leaving her with an impressive 27 points.

The capybara is hefty, but she's not prepared for Mindy's wrestling. ...Careful you don't actually hurt her or her unborn babies, Mindy! Oof, Mindy has the strength to pull her out, though.

Luckily, Mindy runs into a local farmer with lots of vegetables on his hands, and gets plenty of veg for mama capybara to eat. And she seems to like the open area to bed down in just fine, she's laid down and birthing a few baby capybara. Aw.

Mindy finds out that capybara are native to... South America. Which is a far way away from the US Northwest. She does find an online notice from a local zoo about their capybara escaping, though, and a number to call if you find it. Well done!

  2. Yeah, we need to actually contain the capybara. It's swimming in the river, now. What are you going to do?
Er... dive into the water and try to grab it. I hate water. But... yeah, if I need to get it out, I'll try and get under it, maybe lift it up and hold it over me as long as I can, give it some pets... yeah, I think that's all I need to do. I hope it doesn't bite.
  3. Aww! The capybara looks like she's pregnant. I think we'll need to make a suitable location for the mama capybara to give birth. And we're gonna need some capybara food, she's going to be hungry.
It's with squirrel? Well then... I guess I can make a sort of makeshift really bouncy leaf hammock thing? I guess? I don't really know. Something to keep it contained but also something that won't break under pressure. I don't know how to do it.
  4. Where did the capybara come from? Do your best to help figure out where this capy came from and where she and her little ones should be returned to, presumably.
I guess I could ask around town, take a photograph, probably develop it, scrawl a phone number on a thing, and take it around—while also holding the capybara and its pups in my backpack so that it doesn't escape because I really want to keep track of them, thank you. I might not be able to see that well, but I wear glasses already so like, yeah.
