Mario Party Overboarded: Second Roll
#1
A lone comet flies over the Mushroom Kingdom once every thousand years. This comet contains the Millenium Star, a sacred object that heralded the commencement of festivities. After the universe was renewed once, Mario still had the chance to watch the comet fly across the sky again. But during mid-flight it shattered. The Celestial Eon, which controlled the balance and flow of the omniverse went missing all across planets and solar systems. As invaders ruptured from the twisting of reality as Peach's Castle started being ambushed, Mario knew something was wrong. Luckily, the Star Spirits who stopped Bowser once and helped run the Dream Depot  noticed this and enlisted heroes and unwilling villains to combine together to stop the legion of foes who have secured pieces of the artifact, believing it would grant them wishes and power. The party commences like never before.

4 players every board work to gather stars and coins in order to play multiple boards in a game usually referred to as Mario Party. Using a Dice Block usually numbered 1-10, they move across spaces in set paths in order to reach first place. While the game of Mario Party itself is competitive, story-wise every player is working towards the same goal to restore balance to each world and board they come across. Each of the four players are able to carry up to 3 items that have special effects. Each item they carry can only be used once so choose wisely. Every 6 boards are its own plotline, which is connected to the larger, main plot.

Every player has a maximum of 3 unique characters they can choose during intermission between boards at any time, courtesy of the Star Spirits’ latent powers. You cannot switch characters on the fly if a board is currently being played on. Players must retire an existing character if they were to add a new character to their lineup of three.

Mario Party knowledge is required, but only the basic essentials. If you know how a game of Mario Party works (the Gamecube games and 8 are recommended but not required for game knowledge), you're fine.

Almost all actions that happen during board play is controlled by the GM (me). Unique content will be explained either at the explanation update before the board officially begins, and item rules will be recapped and/or explained as a sort of footnote to every update once a player gets them or arrives at the shop for the first time during a turn.

Discord Server: https://discord.gg/7nEyag5sax

Spaces and how they look on the board map:
Blue Space - Gives the player 3 coins. Appearance is exactly what it says on the tin.
Red Space - Takes away 3 coins from the player. Appearance is exactly what it says on the tin.
Event Space - If the player lands on this space exactly the number of spaces to move across as shown on their dice eventually a event happens that they can interact with for further player input or automatically under an update that the GM posts. A green space with a question mark.
Miracle Space - Initiates Chance Time. The two players and the resulting trade are determined by the GM. A green space with a stylized star on it.
Star Space - A space that can't be landed on but will automatically give players a star if they have the right amount of coins to purchase it (usually 20). A unique appearance shared with the Orb Space but with a golden star instead of a red orb. If a person during the turn has bought the star for sale, the GM will create an immediate post saying where the Star Space moves to next.
Evil Space - A space that initiates a random negative effect on the user based on who is the villain behind the current events in the story. A generic Bowser Space with black background with a red skull and crossbones symbol.
Lucky Space - If the player lands on this space exactly the number of spaces to move across as shown on their dice, they will be transported to a separate area of the board filled with Blue Spaces and coins that lead the player usually to a free star by the end of the turn. If they end up getting the free gift and they have moves left on the dice, they return to the board on the Lucky Space with all remaining moves forfeited. A yellow space with an eighth note in orange.
Battle Space - If the player lands on this space exactly the number of spaces to move across as shown on their dice, a new GM update separate to the main update which shows most of what happens in the turn will commence, prompting plays to choose three minigames for them to decide on. Run by Bombette from Paper Mario, she will always choose the minigame which was picked the least when a tie occurs. Up for grabs are coins waged by all players. Lower pots than what Bombette expects will happen. Is a green space that features her likeness.
Duel Space - If the player lands on this space exactly the number of spaces to move across as shown on their dice, a separate GM update will commence telling the player who landed on the space an opponent to fight. A duel minigame commences, and the winner of the minigame will steal coins and/or a star from the loser. The winner's loot will be determined by the GM. Represented by crossed swords in purple colors and background.
Orb Space - Can't be landed on like the Star Space but will give a random orb to a player who passes it, which is revealed when the turn is about to end.

Common Events:
Capsule Machines - Will give you a random orb item if a player who interacts with them has 2 or less items in their inventory. Appears a caricature of itself.
Shop - If their player happens to pass by the shop during their move and has at least 5 coins and is not under a transformation effect, they can purchase one item from the shop's selection in the current turn. Only one appears per board. Appears as a common real-life shop symbol.

How to Nominate:
Character Name:
(link to image of character)
Series:
Personality: (think of it as a backbone to a unique CPU in the Mario Party games. How do they behave during minigames and board play, what do they do with certain and all items, what minigames do they prefer and do well at, and what bonus star do they want the most?):

We will continue onwards with a reset on Wario's Battle Canyon. I can't give the link to the previous four boards, you'll have to look that up for yourself...
Start nominating again, remember the 4 player maximum.

Character Name: The Boyfriend

Series: Friday Night Funkin'
Personality: Being a natural learner, the Boyfriend's typical strategy is to keep an eye on the people around him, see what works for them, and then apply those strategies to himself. Sometimes, he'll branch out and try something on his own, and he's especially good at harmonizing with others in team minigames and such, but he rarely ever makes the first move, preferring to lie in wait... until opportunity arises.

Alrighty, tis' is time to get this started.

Board 5: Wario's Battle Canyon - Prologue and Turn 1

Two aircraft fly towards the outskirts of Wario's wartorn Battle Canyon. Now with Muskular and the Bob-omb Buddy are four players ready to find friendship on the battlefield. While arriving, they wait for someone to greet them.

Muskular: Strange. I thought this group would be a bit more diverse... they're pretty strange compared to what I've seen before too.

A Tactical Doll named RO635 attempts to stop the players and the Star Spirit from advancing further in the canyon. Using her signature megaphone to stab the players' ears, she starts yelling like a drill sergeant in order to get any sort of intel from them.

RO635: Halt! Who goes there? I know you lot are up to no good!

Muskular: Relax, I've been personally called to clean up this mess.

RO635: Were you the person who managed to summon such a vile human being named Yegor?

Wario's archrival Captain Syrup stepped in to explain.

Captain Syrup: Sorry for the intervention, folks! I'm Captain Syrup, long-time rival of Wario, the canyon's former owner. It seems a demon of flames has brought multiple malicious armies into his ropes. This girl here has a big bone to pick with one of them. He's currently hanging out in the center of the board. I wouldn't go there if I were you.

Captain Syrup: Allow me to explain the rest of the board.

Besides the center of the board, the Fly Guy is still around, ready to pick up anyone to it. He may choose another person to target if his vicinity pays out coins. A certain type of Tactical Doll called a HOC hangs out on the bottom right to send players to different islands. The same goes for temporal fishes out of water from Britain using a Howitzer. Near the HOC girls is a trading camp where the player may barter with soldiers hanging out there. A WW2 veteran past his prime is taking a rest near Captain Syrup's shop and a demigod stalks the top left of the board. The rest of the Happening Spaces are pretty much negative and may result in players losing coins or getting sent back to start by force.

Captain Syrup: Whew, that's a lot to explain for such a strenuous time. Last time I came here with Wario, this canyon didn't even have any bridges between islands. Let's hit the Dice Blocks shall we?

Shitass rolls a 10. Michael rolls a 2. Boyfriend rolls a 3. Henry Stickmin rolls a 4.

Muskular: ...uh, the guy with the weird smile... named Shitass... goes first. Henry's second, the kid named Boyfriend is third, and Michael, well... he's in last.

Muskular, still a bit concerned about the ragtag bunch of maniacs, gives each of the 4 players 10 coins each. A Star Space appears somewhere on the top left island, near an Orb Space.

RO635: Alright, you all got me there. Good luck, then.

It's Shitass's turn. We can hear a spacebar being pressed as Shitass hits the Dice Block monotonously. Rolling a 6, he passes by a WW2 veteran who yells at him.

Ryan: The hell are you? I won't have any conversation with you unless you pay up 15 cents.

Shitass stops walking when he lands on a Blue Space and stands like a rock as three coins are put into his inventory.

It's Henry's turn. He whacks the Dice Block with a baseball bat as a 1 comes out of it. Henry rolls his eyes as he stops on the Blue Space right ahead of him and gets 3 coins.

It's the Boyfriend's turn. He punches the Dice Block and rolls an 10. He ignored the near senile WW2 veteran stuck in a rock and a hard place. He picks up a Koopa Bank Orb from an Orb Space before stopping on a near end of the bridge linking the bottom two islands, where a Red Space rests. Boyfriend loses 3 of his coins.

Koopa Bank Orb - Anyone (even the person who threw the orb) who bypasses the space this creates is forced to pay up to 5 coins to the Koopa Bank's reserves. Whoever lands on the space directly gets all the coins in the reserve.

It's Michael's turn. Hitting the Dice Block nets him an 1. He stops on the same Blue Space as Henry as he gets 3 coins.

It's the kid rapper against 3 weirdos that could give Dad a second thought! What's the first minigame?

Turn 1 Mini-Game - Wheel of Woe (video of minigame)

The partiers are sent into a dark, dungeon-like room. A female dark elf with a job as a Hocus-Poker on the side tells the Boyfriend about the minigame as she opens a magic book that allows the room itself to be completely controlled. The Shy Guy far from them turns on the rotating cog on the floor as the three other players drop into the dungeon and panicking as the Boyfriend starts calling out his summoning spells!
  • The first command Boyfriend says is a Chain Chomp. An iron gate slid open as a Chain Chomp rushed in to tackle the players. Michael Afton is caught in its path and is eliminated as the other two players wobble around the rotating cog floor.
  • Boyfriend orders the Shy Guy to rotate the direction the floor is moving as the Hocus-Poker girl tells the Shy Guy to do so. The two remaining players still hang on.
  • Boyfriend commands for the cannons in the dungeon to fire cannonballs as holes in the stone walls open up and cannons fire salvos of cannonballs. Henry is shot in the face and is thrown off the cog.
  • Boyfriend commands for the cannons to fire again at Shitass, the last player currently standing. Shitass managed to evade the cannonballs by doing absolutely nothing.
  • Boyfriend manages to have the Hocus-Poker girl have Shy Guy rotate the cog again. Shitass falls off clumsily as the Boyfriend has been declared the victor.
Her pointy ears wiggled as she congratulated him for the great work at making the other players suffer as she gives him the 10 coin wage. Boyfriend blushes, as he knows he's already taken by the Girlfriend already.

Wario's Battle Canyon - Turn 2

It's Shitass's turn. Hitting the Dice Block nets him a 9. He leisurely walks across the bridge connecting the two islands in the bottom portion of the board. He picks up a Lakitu Orb from an Orb Space, gets off the bridge, walks past by the Capsule Machine, and stops on a Blue Space, getting himself 3 more coins.

Lakitu Orb -  Allows the player to target any of their opponents to steal a random item in their inventory.

It's Henry's turn. He unleashes a cheap Shotokan combo on the Dice Block and a 6 comes out of it. Passing by James F. Ryan, he stops on a Red Space and loses 3 of his coins.

It's the Boyfriend's turn. He punches the Dice Block and manages to roll a 7. He stops by the Capsule Machine to ask for another orb since he didn't really want to fiddle with economics thanks to his Koopa Bank Orb.

Capsule Machine: OK, I will give you an Orb. I wonder what you'll get? Here it comes...

The Capsule Machine spits out a Thwomp Orb.

The Boyfriend uses up the rest of his moves and lands on a Blue Space, getting himself 3 more coins.

Thwomp Orb - The space it lands on squishes the player who tries to bypass the space it created, forcing the player to stop moving and stay on the space, immediately ending the targeted player's turn.

It's Michael's turn. Hitting the Dice Block nets him a 3. He passes by the WW2 vet, and stops himself on a Blue Space as he earns a 3 coin salary.

It's yet another 1-vs-3! Will Charles's best pal get more treasure to his name?

Turn 2 Mini-Game - Sink or Swim (video of minigame)

Henry finds himself in a large lake. The other three players are nowhere to be found. Right to the left of him is a Kansen of young adult build named Surcouf. There is a crate full of naval mines right behind her.

Surcouf tells Henry how the minigame works.

Surcouf: We have plenty of naval mines on reserve so don't be shy to use them up. If you see some faces surfacing in the lake, get them sinking quickly. I'll be back once the course is set. Bonne chance!

Henry picks up his first naval mine. The other three players finally show up swimming under the water as the mini-game begins.
  • One of Henry's mines blows up on Shitass as he starts sinking like a Zombie.
  • Another deployed mine makes Boyfriend's groin writhe in pain upon exploding near his knees as he sinks to the bottom.
  • Michael manages to survive Henry's onslaught as the team of three take the win. The crate of naval mines vanishes almost on the drop of a hat as Henry starts to wallow in failure.
An half an hour later, the team of three are rescued by U-110, another submarine Kansen as she leaves three bags of coins for them before leaving. In each bag is 10 coins and a note saying: Crimson Axis appreciates your perseverance. Gao~

Wario's Battle Canyon - Turn 3

It's Shitass's turn. He punches the Dice Block and breaks it as a 4 drops out of it. He passes by the Capsule Machine and ends up landing on an Event Space. Stomping out of the camp is a Bully..

Bully: Hey you! I've got a sweet dog whistle! It's yours for 20 coins!

Shitass shakes his head like crazy.

Bully: Hurh?! It's a no-go? Whatever, then. Get lost, bub.

Shitass turns his back on the Bully and starts and stops sneaking rapidly as the Bully leaves.

It's Henry's turn. He pulls out a scoped rifle and shoots the Dice Block. The Dice Block bleeds out a 8. After picking up a Super Mushroom Orb from an Orb Space, he ignores the Capsule Machine on his way and stops on a Blue Space, getting 3 coins.

Super Mushroom Orb - Allows the player to roll three dice blocks instead of one when used.

It's the Boyfriend's turn. Hitting the Dice Block nets him a 5. He ignores the Capsule Machine as he inches closer to the area where a trio of HOC Tactical Dolls were lying around.

M2 (Middle): We're taking an order to help you navigate around this battlefield. We can send you randomly anywhere for free, but if you want to land on a specific island, you have to pay us ten coins.

Boyfriend pays the HOC dolls 10 coins so he can land somewhere on the top left island.. As the M2 T-Doll with the tan bowtie places a metal helmet on Boyfriend on top of his baseball cap, he is loaded into the mortar like a cannon as the HOC doll with hair over one of her eyes attempts to fire the mortar with him as ammunition.

M2 (Left): Hang on tight! This may be painful for you. (beat) Fire!

The Boyfriend wants to land one space before the star, but he whiffs the landing by a long shot and lands 3 spaces ahead of it. He moves one space and stops on a Blue Space, getting 3 coins.

It's Michael's turn. Hitting the Dice Block nets him a 6. He passes over the Orb Space which gives him a Lakitu Orb. He stops just at the other end of the bridge, where he stops on a Red Space and loses 3 of his coins.

Lakitu Orb - Allows the player to target any of their opponents to steal a random item in their inventory.

It's the mutes against the unwilling part-timer! What's this 1vs3 going to be?

Turn 3 Mini-Game - Coconut Conk (video of minigame)

Michael finds himself stuck inside a barrel. Behind the foliage are the other three players and a Kremling, who tells them about the minigame. As the trio climb up the palm trees, they start ground pounds like Amelia Watson on the hunt for mothers as the minigame starts.
  • After rolling around in the barrel for most of the mini-game, Shitass manages to ground pound on a palm tree that knocks him out cold with a coconut as the barrel breaks.
The Kremling comes back flying in a Klepto's claws as he tosses 10 coins each to the 3 winners.

Wario's Battle Canyon - Turn 4

It's Shitass's turn. He punches the Dice Block and manages to roll a 9. He stops by the HOC T-Dolls to get launched somewhere else.

M2 (Middle): We're taking an order to help you navigate around this battlefield. We can send you randomly anywhere for free, but if you want to land on a specific island, you have to pay us ten coins.

Shitass isn't willing to pay any coins to be launched like from a TNT cannon.

As the M2 T-Doll with the tan bowtie gives him a metal helmet to wear, Shitass opens his inventory, places it in his helmet slot, and stands there until he is put into the supersized mortar to be launched.

M2 (Left): Hang on tight! This may be painful for you. (beat) Fire!

Shitass is fired straight into the bottom left island instead of going to the top two. He tries to land near the shop and manages to land two spaces behind it.

He enters Captain Syrup's shop.

Captain Syrup: Greetings, mate. How does treasure trading sound? I'll need your coins for them!

The shop items included: Bob-omb Orb (10 Coins), Bulin Orb (15 Coins), Vampire Orb (10 Coins)

Shitass trades in 15 of his coins for a Bulin Orb as he stares at it in his hand before stowing it away in his inventory.

Captain Syrup: Come back again if you really wanna.

Shitass passes by former private Ryan and stops on a Blue Space, gaining 3 coins.

Bulin Orb - The player that lands on the space it creates calls in the two Bulin of the Kansen to delete all their items and convert them to coins which goes to the player who created the space.

It's Henry's turn. Using up his Super Mushroom Orb, he then fires a minigun at the Dice Blocks that comes out one by one. The rolls he accrued are a 2, a 4, and a 8. The dice rolls sum up to 14. He stops near the trio of T-Dolls to try to land somewhere in the top islands.

M2 (Middle): We're taking an order to help you navigate around this battlefield. We can send you randomly anywhere for free, but if you want to land on a specific island, you have to pay us ten coins.

Henry declines the 10 coin fee, pulls out a metal helmet of his own, as the T-Dolls start loading him into the mortar.

M2 (Left): Hang on tight! This may be painful for you. (beat) Fire!

As Henry finds out he'll land somewhere in the top right island, he tries to stick the landing and manages to land on the Evil Space the closest to the Fly Guy. He picks up a Bowlo Orb from an Orb Space and ignores Rory Mercury on his way to his stop, as Henry is vying for the Star Space. He stops on a Blue Space and gets 3 more coins.

Bowlo Orb - The user turns into a ball that rolls across the board. Players who pass other players who are not moving and are at their destination steal 10 coins from the player they roll over.

It's the Boyfriend's turn. He throws his Thwomp Orb a space behind the Star Space then rolls the Dice Block. Rolling a 8, he passes by the troupe of British WW2 soldiers, picks up a Lakitu Orb and a Bob-omb Orb from two Orb Spaces before stopping on a Red Space, losing 3 of his coins.

Lakitu Orb - Allows the player to target any of their opponents to steal a random item in their inventory.

Bob-omb Orb - The space it lands on explodes on the player who tries to bypass the space it created, reducing the current moves the player had before they passed the space by half (rounded down).

It's Michael's turn. He hits the Dice Block and rolls a 10. He passes by one of the Capsule Machines before stopping at the other one further down his path. Time to roll.

Capsule Machine: OK, I will give you an Orb. I wonder what you'll get? Here it comes...

The Capsule Machine spits out a Waddle Dee Orb.

Michael stops on a Blue Space and gets 3 coins.

Waddle Dee Orb - Give you a free item that replaces this item after being used.

It's the Boyfriend against the other three players again in a sick 1vs3 duel!

Turn 4 Mini-Game - Skewer Scurry (video of minigame)

The players are thrown into a dungeon filled with numerous Skewers. As the Boyfriend climbs up to find a crystal ball on the balcony, a voice that sounded like Yuuya Hozumi, telling the Boyfriend about the mini-game before ridiculing the other three players in the pit before laughing. As the voice wanes out, Boyfriend gets his magician juice flowing as the Skewers start moving upon the Boyfriend's command.
  • Shitass is the first to get impaled by a Skewer as he falls sideways to the ground as a lifeless corpse.
  • Henry fails to get away from an array of Skewers in time and is flung out of the pit.
  • Michael is the last to fall just two seconds before the Skewers stopped responding to the crystal ball's commands.
A giant emerald orb drops from the ceiling and conks Boyfriend on the head, shattering into pieces on impact with the floor. Inside are ten coins. How generous!

yes another week passed

Wario's Battle Canyon - Turn 5

It's Shitass's turn. He hits the Dice Block and rolls a 4. He stops on a Blue Space and gets himself 3 coins.

It's Henry's turn. Looking at the Thwomp Orb trap the Boyfriend set up, he rolls his eyes and hits the Dice Block. Rolling a 3, he picks up a Super Mushroom Orb from an Orb Space and the next space has him get squashed like a pancake by a Thwomp. 3 coins drop into his inventory because of the Blue Space while Henry is trying to slowly recover from the impact.

Super Mushroom Orb - Allows the player to roll three dice blocks instead of one when used.

It's the Boyfriend's turn. He throws his Koopa Bank Orb onto the Red Space to the right of the Fly Guy, overwriting it. Hitting the Dice Block nets him a 6. After collecting a Waddle Dee Orb from an Orb Space, he lands on an Evil Space. The Evil Space blows him up as Boyfriend clutches his testicles in pain. After passing out, he wakes up in a remote part of the canyon, where the foliage and structures have been burned and razed. The Archfiend of Fire was waiting for him.

Rubicante: Greetings. I am Rubicante of the Archfiends of Golbez. What misfortune shall I inflict this time...

An idea sprung out of the figurative inferno in Rubicante's mind.

Rubicante: This one will be ingenious! I'm going to mix up the positions of everyone on the board. Yes, this means you. You're dismissed for now, but where you're ending up may not be the same location you stopped at. Have fun...

Rubicante cackles as a fiery vortex whisks the Boyfriend back to the board. Shitass's space is now occupied by Henry, Henry's space is now occupied by the Boyfriend, and Shitass is now on the Evil Space the Boyfriend was on. Michael was left untouched.

Waddle Dee Orb - Give you a free item that replaces this item after being used.

It's Michael's turn. He pops open his Waddle Dee Orb as a Waddle Dee with a parachute falls onto the board, gives Michael a P-Balloon and skedaddles out of the canyon. Michael then hits the Dice Block and rolls a 7. He stops just a step later to talk to the HOC Tactical Dolls.

M2 (Middle): We're taking an order to help you navigate around this battlefield. We can send you randomly anywhere for free, but if you want to land on a specific island, you have to pay us ten coins.

Michael refuses to pay 10 coins and resolves to be launched for free. As the M2 T-Doll with the tan bowtie places a metal helmet on Michael, he is loaded into the mortar like a cannon as the HOC doll with hair over one of her eyes attempts to fire the mortar with him as ammunition.

M2 (Left): Hang on tight! This may be painful for you. (beat) Fire!

Michael is unfortunately launched towards the bottom left island as he tries to land near the shop. He successfully does so and lands one space behind it. Maybe the service in the shop isn't bad?

Captain Syrup: Greetings, mate. How does treasure trading sound? I'll need your coins for them!

The shop items included: Super Mushroom Orb (15 Coins), Duel Orb (10 Coins), Spiny Shell (20 Coins)

Michael Afton buys a Duel Orb to save up his coins. Now he has 16 coins left, but is still stuck in 4th place.

Captain Syrup: Come back again if you really wanna.

Michael zips past former Private Ryan as he lands on a Blue Space and ends his turn with a total of 19 coins.

P-Balloon - Causes the player to go to a single random Blue or Red space on the board if used.
Duel Orb - Initiates a duel as if the player landed on a Duel Space.

Last turn's mini-game matchup is repeated again as the Boyfriend takes on the other three players in a 1-vs-3 again.

Turn 5 Mini-Game - Beam Team (video of minigame)

Boyfriend is stuck inside a Stonehenge-like area as a human-like alien walks in to tell her about the mini-game works. Suddenly, the other three players come flying towards the area  as the technically alien girl flees from cover. They're all in U.F.O.s and are ready to abduct Boyfriend like a cow.
  • Just as the time limit is nearing the last few seconds, Henry's U.F.O. catches the Boyfriend as the tractor beam keeps him suspended as he starts panicking and flails his limbs around.
Another UFO crashes into the site as a more stereotypical alien holding a futuristic treasure chest places it on the ground and leaves it open. Each of the three winners abduct 10 coins each.

[The Boyfriend sits dizzily on his space, clutching his head in one hand. Apparently whatever happened in that tractor beam messed him up a little.] “Boop... bap beep...” (Translation: What... happened...)

Shitass takes out a Potion of Strength and drinks it.

Probably won't do him any good, but he's still gonna try.
