[Mafia] Codename: Mafia - Round 2
#76
Yeah, we really do need to get those pings going in the discord.

Sounds like an interesting ability, not as overpowered as the name would sound (probably learned something from the first one in terms of broken abilities though? XD).

May change this depending of course on what the people who haven't spoken up yet have to say. "Professor Lies" does sound like either a town that investigates as sus or a scum who investigates as inno. No idea what "The Universal Collapse" could be role-wise. Perhaps some sort of a bomber type role?

Point, you mentioned something about there being a good person who registers as evil, right? Sounds like this could be Professor Lies based on possible roles that could be taken from that name.

I heard my name, and came right over, though, I must state clearly that my role has no effect on investigations, whatsoever.

Well, that's if you're not, well, lying, Professor Lies :p :D

But yeah, Oz, that's what I was told.

(I don't actually know if the person would have been told if they would register that way. Probably, but it doesn't necessarily *have* to work that way either.)

This vote on Knife feels a bit hasty. I want to wait a bit to see if we get any further leads. No, it doesn't result in the death of a goodie, but it'd be better to actually vote off scum.

DAoM: I see. I assume you'd have to use it during the night, then the rule is applied the following day?

Smily: Do you want to give more detail?

CG: Do you at least know who they are?

Humour aside, I do believe I was stating the truth. If not, I shall forfeit my job as a Professor, for a Professor shall ALWAYS BE KNOWLEDGABLE!

For now, I shall state that my role can be used once per night. I shan't specify anything else for fear of painting a bigger target on my back.

The only other idea I am curious is when Whistle said "It could be Florien". Is there any rhyme or reason for saying that? Just another stab in the dark guess for whatever reason? I do admit I found that a little fishy...

I didn't see any reason for it, personally, no.

The only way I think Florien could be scum is if PointMaid is also scum, but I have no evidence against her.
Her claim's not something that it's likely you'd see on scum, so if she's scum, her claim's almost certainly a lie.
If she's scum, she's either "clearing" her teammate or making sure a good player is framed by her death.
Side note: If PointMaid is lying, then Kennifer is confirmed evil for going along with the false claim.

On the subject of Florien, I feel like the "International Terrorist" part of their alias would imply the possibility that they're also a Miller of some sort.
But PointMaid saying they're innocent contradicts this. So Florien's either genuinely not a Miller or working with PointMaid to "clear" themselves.

Hence if it's PointMaid, it's almost certainly Florien and Kennifer as well. PointMaid and Florien are almost certainly on the same side, in my opinion.

Kennifer, however, could go either way with that (what amounts to a) Rolecop claim. It's plausible as either side, but she apparently for some reason decided to check the role of the player with one of the most obvious roles implied by her name. To be fair, if PointMaid claimed Rolecop herself it'd be relatively suspicious. However, as mentioned, it's something you'd plausibly see on a goodie as well.

Kennifer: Why did you decide to investigate PointMaid first?

Because her codename sounded like it could be an investigative type role and I wanted to confirm this. I figured having either someone who could confirm what I see as far as abilities go or someone who can see alignments sounded useful. Like if someone's going to say they know an alignment, that's going to help out a lot.

And I figured if she came out right away pointing at someone as sus or clearing someone it would be nice to know that yes. she has a role that allows that.

I really don't think getting scum on first execution is a possible thing, unless the scum team wants it or you get lucky, better to vanillize a role that's completely passive and not-particularly helpful, on the off chance it's actually a lie.

It's a decent strategy if we don't find anyone else sus, yeah. I just want as much information as possible.

I'm not adverse to skipping if we really discuss these things and don't really know what else we can do. But I do think it's a little too soon to suggest it right now...

well, i just feel we're going in circles, you know? plus, no one's died, so we don't have THAT much to go off of

We're not going in circles. The correct choice is pretty obvious, and we won't get new information by waiting for the next day when we essentially get free information from vanillizing you by voting for you.

You're in no danger if you're telling the truth about your role, and if you're scum and you're one-shot execution immune, all the better for us to vote you now to make it possible to execute you then. Execution immunity is too powerful to be left unchecked.

What else could she possibly have been?

Knife: If we skip now, tomorrow is likely 3v7. A miselimination then causes a likely 3v5 MELo.
If not, at worst we're likely to be 3v6. Then we still have one miselimination left before it risks costing us the game.
If we vote you off now, we're effectively skipping... unless you're lying about having execution immunity. The only real downside that I see is that it uses your extra life.
The day's nowhere near over, so we should at the very least try to get more info. Deaths aren't the only info we have.
Florien has been consistently eager to vote people off immediately.
Can you give more detail about the "confession" part of your role?

Florien: Why do you dismiss the idea of finding scum immediately? Literally last round we were about to get Matthew voted out (before you used your role to win the game) and he was scum.

We were about to get Matthew voted out because I was loudly shouting that we needed to take out the proclaimed miller. You, if I remember, were more interested in actually scumhunting via behavior, whereas I was working based entirely on the information we had been provided and making decisions based on that. I was actually unsure whether or not he was scum. I figured the worst case was that I'd get scumcred and the scum team would be more likely to go with whatever plans I implied I had, best case I'd get towncred and take out a scum team member right away, and the scum would think it was all a cunning plan on my part.

In this case, we've got what's essentially a better version of skipping the vote right in front of us. If we vote for Knife, we remove an execution immunity. Bulletproof doesn't provide any particularly useful service to the town, and execution immunity is always a bad thing, whoever holds it, because it throws off the rhythms of the game. Skipping the vote gives zero information for free.

Voting for Knife gives information for what seems to be a net gain in things "lost", because we don't actually lose any players. We just verify a role and if knife should turn up scum later, we can't have our execution attempt disrupted.
