Ok, here's some new ideas (just to keep TC active beyond the Murdergames):
  • Roleplay/Hybrid Game - "World of Supers". Basic premise is that we play as characters with supernatural abilities, but everyone has only one supernatural ability, and no two people has the same power. Basically combining the animes/mangas with that premise (e.g. JoJo, MHA, etc).
  • Mafia Game - "Duo-Role Mode". Just think 'Greater Idea', but everyone has two roles (MUST BE FROM SAME TEAM, e.g. two Townie Roles).
  • Roleplay - "Meta Madness". The characters are all aware of the fourth wall, and can learn of things happening beyond it. BUT, they cannot interact with the fourth wall, just see/hear through it.
  • Hybrid Game - "Virtual Insanity". The characters are stuck in a virtual world, not having been put in there by choice. This world/game took some notes from SAO's book and made it so the only way out is by beating the final boss. Thankfully, they have multiple lives (three of them, to begin with), and can gain more through fulfilling the right conditions.
Viking Duck is back from Valhalla, and ready to take all the loot. Also, still a friend to animals.

Honestly? I'm not really feeling any of them. And I think I know why people aren't replying. Looking at each of the previous posts that garnered reactions, we only really have things that are based on other things that most Troubadors are already familiar with (Tropers: the Series, Mario, and a Murdergame).

Recontextualising "World of Supers" as a straight-up JoJo roleplay (since one of the inspirations is JJBA) did, however, make me immediately think "I join this." Maybe that could be a new starting point.

Of the options you suggested, most of them are more of gimmicks than premises - you can't have an entire thread on "everyone has exactly one unique supernatural ability", cause like, okay but what are they doing with it? Is it slice of life, is there some kind of factional conflict, is the world being invaded by squid demons?

Virtual Insanity is the only one that gives enough information to see where the thread could go, and we would indeed be interested in that.

... well that and the mafia game, since mafia is already mafia. But like, a gimmick has to have a premise to be based on.

Yeah that does tend to be a problem. There's a premise but no setting, or a setting with no premise. You need both to make a pitch.

As stated I think the Mafia one could work; it'd be chaotic and fun. It would need to be explained how the two roles thing would work; using both every night? alternating nights?

I think the Virtual Insanity one could work with a bit more fleshing out as to how the settings and mechanics work and [i]why]/i] the people got sucked into virtual reality (especially for those of us who haven't watched SOA), and it needs the a good GM or GMs (presuming it'd have a GM based on the "end boss" thing).

To be honest, these were ideas that were literally conceived in a five-minute timeframe. I'll elaborate on them for y'all:
  • "World of Supers" - While it is based on works like JoJo and MHA, the setting is actually in a world where such powers have yet to exist, thus showing them off will attract attention. Yet there are villains who are more than willing to abuse their powers for their own gain. The heroes (read: player characters) will have to thwart these foes while ensuring that nobody learns supernatural abilities exist. Can they?
  • "Duo-Role Mode - Basically, it's two roles per person in a Greater Idea setting, with the hard rules being that the two roles have to be on the same side (e.g. Townie, Werewolf), and only one can be used at a time (e.g. Watcher and Kingmaker - They have to be used on separate nights from each other, not on the same night). Also, win conditions are limited by team, not role (e.g. Townies win if there's no opposing threats left to the Town).
  • "Meta Madness" - The characters are able to see/hear through the fourth wall, but not able to interact with it, meaning they can't just reach out and spam the like button on their own social media posts. Just a chill game we can use to have our characters react to real-world events (e.g. The Olympics).
  • "Virtual Insanity" - Will require a DM, yes, due to the fact that it has bosses and stuff, but simply put: The player characters are stuck in a virtual world, and they were forced in there. Why do they want to get out? Who knows? All we know is that they have to deal with getting outta here. Just be thankful that they have multiple lives (3 each to begin with), and can get more if they fulfil the right conditions (e.g. quests). Also, the NPCs here have sentient AI, meaning they act like real people. And for some reason, none of them want the characters to leave............

If any of y'all want to use/expand these ideas, or have any better ones, feel free to do so.

I'd be down for Meta Madness.
If you hear about someone putting characters through intense despair and misery, then that someone is probably me.

Alright, just putting up one more hopefully-not-doomed interest check thing...

Basically, it's a fantasy roleplay set on a bunch of floatimg islands with loads of different themes, from relatively standard Tolkienesque and Ancient Egyptian worlds, to Alice in Wonderland and Mississippian-inspired settings. The overarching plot is about figuring out what caused the islands to break off from their original places, but each island also has its own special plot with dungeons and such. The engine is based on the Roll to Dodge system, but uses the D4 rather than the D6 and includes some more RPG elements (like character levels).

(I'm fairly certain I've learned from the mistakes I made in my past RPs, and am going to great lengths to make sure I don't repeat them.)

Oh, nice concept! I'd be down to do that sometime.

(Oh yeah, that D4 thing is actually pretty interesting too; good to simplify things every once in a while.)
You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby.

Idea for a hybrid game thread (its similar to that of a murdergame, but at the same time, not a murdergame due to key differences)

Story: 10 (or possibly more) people are brought into a small town named Hazelton as amateur investigators to assist in solving a series of local murders. The town has 15 townspeople/possible suspects.

Gameplay would work similarly to Murder in Small Town X, where players participate in RNG style missions to find clues each day, with the player with the most amount of points would become the Lead Investigator for the day. At the end of the day, the Lead Investigator chooses two people to go to two different locations in the town. One location will provide another clue for the murderer's identity, and at the other location, the murderer is waiting to strike.

Not calling this a murdergame because the murderer is an NPC as opposed to a player.

Thoughts?

thinking about hosting a murdergame
over the summer break...so in like a month or so's time
i have this old story thing i need to get out of my system and i think it'd work well as a murdergame or something in that vein! ( might need someone to co-host, though, since it'll be my first time hosting a MG )

anyways... ladies, gentlemen, people of all genders...
THE BARNTON INSTITUTE
characters are invited to a mysterious academy in the countryside because they've been discovered to be the latest reincarnations of legendary heroes. the institute seems like a pretty normal place, though soon, some students discover... secrets. mythical monsters ( referred to as "entities" ) hiding in the countryside around the institute, secret rooms where ancient deities are held captive and studied, unseen forces killing off students, one by one...

the map is the institute and the country and forest surrounding it, though there's a city some time away from the academy that may also be used as a location on the map, since in the original story, one of the MCs went there to find clues about his previous incarnation.

the roles are based on the entities and i'll probably be the one deciding who each character is a reincarnation of and giving them an ability based on that character. i also feel like this game may be heavily plot-driven?

Been having a few ideas floating around. And have thought about starting a non-MG RP of my own sometime. Don't know when exactly. But I have an idea for one that I did originally plan to be an MG, but might change things around for it to be a non-MG. Anyway, here's the idea.

SURVIVAL CITY

Taking place over 40 years into the future, the characters are part of a game show where the goal is to survive. They're all placed into a city which had been destroyed by nuclear war. The goal is to survive the environment as well as face off against the people trying to kill them and possibly make alliances with a few of the survivors. There'll be boss battles as you advance to the next area. Of course you could still die in the game, so you do need to watch yourself.

It's kind of like the movie and Stephen King novel The Running Man.
