Destroy the Corruption: A DTGM-Type Crossover Game
#1
"Hello, Multiverse. If you're hearing this, then something's gone horribly wrong. I've been fighting eldritch beings for years now, but this one... it bested me. And my friends... it took over them. Heh... I should'a known it'd end like this. Me, alone in a bunker... no bullets in the barrel now. I managed to kill one of the... well, I suppose they can be called drones now... could'a been a friend of mine."

"*sigh*... I don't have long to talk. I feel like I've found the key weakness, though-"

"Crap! Alright, if you're out there, listen closely! The Corruption is going to spread - I know this. It's scary, but stay calm. The Corruption is weak to-AAAAAA̧̯͈̾̾͒A̦͈͒͋!̲̙̆͡!̖͚͍̾̇͞"̧̫̤͑̍͐

END OF UNIVERSE...

Maybe someone with their radio caught this message. Maybe it just flew through a medieval setting without such technology. Either way, The Corruption is going to breach somewhere in their world, and try to take it over by any means necessary.

----

Welcome to "Destroy the Corruption", a Destroy the Godmodder-type game in which you all muster up the powers and characters of other universes to fight against... that. What is it? Who knows? (Me. I know. Duh.)

So, let's get on with the main rules:

Introducing characters & universes - first posts and beyond
* When introducing a universe:
** A header should state its name (the work it's from, plus any canonical names). Examples: Downton Abbey, Pete's World (Doctor Who),
** And also its type. Examples: "City-size Urban Fantasy 'verse", "Multi-Galactic Space Opera"
** The main post itself should state a specific location where the Corruption spawns in. Examples: "the House of Commons chamber", "the planet of Teegarden's Star b".

* When introducing one or more characters:
** Obviously, you should state their name. Examples: "Wonder Woman", "Jorji Costova".
** State whatever they have on them right now. Example: "The Doctor has his Sonic Screwdriver and Psychic Paper".
** State any strengths or weaknesses that will probably become relevant. Example: "Sonic the Hedgehog has super speed".

There, that was easy, wasn't it? All you need to do is have them do an action. How?

Further actions
To make an action, you must state it with a > thingy. Just about any action can be taken to fight against the Corruption, but there will be some minor things:

* If your action would use a limited resource (ammo, gasoline, custard pies, ect), I ask that you keep track of how much of that resource your character has and will use in that action.
* It's not just attacking: you can run away, take cover, try to learn about your foe, and so on.
* If there is an element of chance, uncertainty, of anything that means that the action might not work, just state so and I'll roll a die.
* The final action a Universe can take is Capitualtion. This instantly assimilates it and all known characters in it. You may only Capitulate universes you have played in a lot, and only as a last resort. This cannot be undone.

What is the Corruption?
There isn't really that much to know about the Corruption. But what there is to know is as follows:

* If a Corruption force would kill or destroy something, it instead assimilates it, taking control of it. This applies to everything that is still recognisable, and that isn't a part of the enviroment (trees, buildings, bodies of water, the void, ect.). The enviroment is tainted with much less effort.
* The Corruption only sends out a few Drones (corrupted soldiers) per universe. The number sent out depends on the verse's scope. They are rather tough (much stronger than the average bear), but do have a few mystery weaknesses. Try everything.
* The first Drone spotted will always be a Footsoldier Drone. It's a figure in dark armour that weilds a baton and a shield.
* Any further things will be added here once people figure them out - or at least think they do.

Other rules
* Don't be too much of a jerk to other players. They already have one problem to deal with, so... don't make it un-fun.
* Don't get too annoyed if a universe you like gets assimilated - that's just how it goes.
* Any questions? Don't be afraid to ask!

Active Universes
* Etheirys (Final Fantasy XIV)
* Beach City (Steven Universe)

As long as there's substantial material (such as fanfic), then yeah, sure. Otherwise, I'd probably say no.

Etheirys (Final Fantasy XIV)
Fantasy/sci-fi kitchen sink

The Source:

Eastern La Noscea: Castrum Occidens
Ever since being shut down by the Warrior of Light Vivi Elakha and her allies Alphinaud and Alisaie Leveilleur, the three Coils of Bahamut have remained silent.

North Shroud: Alder Springs
From the first weeks of the Seventh Astral Era to what almost became the Final Days, they did not stir, leaving most with the impression that they would remain inert forevermore.

Northern Thanalan: Raubahn's Push
And indeed, the shards of Dalamud themselves caused no further problems.

The inky-black goo that manifested above them, on the other hand...

Old Sharlayan: Scholar's Harbor
Vivi was browsing the hunt boards for new elite mark bills when the linkpearl transmission came in.

"... Shite. I'm on my way."

>Step 1: Teleport to
Gridaniafor those unfamiliar with XIV, this is the major city in the Shroud
and ask people what they've seen.

Dossier: Vivi Elakha
Vivi Elakha is Eorzea's famed Warrior of Light, though she prefers to think of herself as just another adventurer, a preference she has been increasingly insistent about since the aversion of the Final Days.

She began her adventuring career as a conjurer shortly after the fall of Dalamud, and was chosen shortly thereafter by Seedseer Raya-O-Senna to be taught white magic. Throughout her storied adventuring career, she has picked up nearly every discipline of might and magic known to the realm, but her signature skillsets are white magic, ninjutsu, and gunbreaking - and recently she has been observed training in somanoutics as a sage.

In her downtime, she enjoys gathering, crafting, and especially fishing.

Strengths: Swift mastery of anything she tries to learn.
Weaknesses: None in particular. Like, she's not unstoppable, she's still a mortal and she'll die if you kill her - but there's no clever way of killing her extra-fast.

Inventory: A full set of gear for each of Etheirys's thirty-one jobs (yes, including Blue Mage), though the gear for Sage, White Mage, Gunbreaker, and Ninja are the most up-to-date, with Dancer close behind and the other jobs somewhere behind there. Several dozen cups of Espresso con Panna. Various materia, crafting ingredients, and esoteric miscellany.

Hope we're doing this intro stuff right! We'll be avoiding Endwalker spoilers as much as possible ("no the apocalypse doesn't destroy the world" doesn't count lol)

>Step 1: Teleport to Gridania and ask people what they've seen. (Vivi)

Vivi arrives at the city, and, after a few people who've seen nothing much, one Midlander has something to say:

"I heard something from Fallgourd Float. Apparently something terrible has been spotted just south of the village - a soldier of some sort. Nobody wants anything to do with it. It seems to be that it's corrupting the land around it. You seem like you could solve this problem, though."

***

Meanwhile, at the rapidly-Corrupting Alder Springs, the Footsoldier Drone sets its sights on what it sees. It catches sight of a village to its rough North - Fallgourd Float, as Vivi would know it. But that can wait - who knows how dangerous this place could be? Backup may be needed, given both the scale and the chance of magic.

Footsoldier Drone 1: 10/10 Health.

(Also, just quickly checking: Am I right in thinking that you're having three Sources?)
#6
Yes and no. In our previous post, the phrase "The Source" refers to part of the world - Etheirys was split into fourteen worlds long ago, one of which is identifiable as what's left of the original world, and the "source" of them all. This is the one Vivi is originally from and in which most of XIV takes place. But separately from that, yes, we do intend for the Corruption to be entering the world at three points, one near each of the three Coils of Bahamut.

"From the sounds of it, the soldier isn't actively attacking... yet. However, its mere presence seems to be corrupting the land, making it an immediate threat even so. I don't yet know if what it does is in any way comparable to tempering, but bring your scales just in case. I'm going to scout it out."

Report delivered, Vivi ends the linkpearl call and starts walking to the North Shroud. She might be protected from this "corruption" by the Echo, the same way she's been protected from primal tempering, but she doesn't know that for sure, so she'll need to be cautious.

>Scout out the soldier - determine its threat level and how much time there is to prepare.

Beach City (Steven Universe)
Science Fantasy Dramady Sink

The Corruption Starting Points:

Mask Island
Here lives many sentient watermelons that all resemble either farm animals (pigs, chickens, horses), or the Saviour of the Galaxy himself, Steven Universe. It has had history, what with the Melon Civil War, followed by the Melonsgiving (the celebration of the re-unification of the Melons into one society again). Now, one of their own wanders off into the island's wilderness, who was never seen again.........

The Forge
What was once used by Bismuth during the Rebellion saw little use afterwards, becoming completely abandoned due to Bismuth getting a new one at Little Homeworld. The volcano laid dormant all this time, but it suddenly erupts, as if something disturbed the volcano itself.........

Little Homeworld
Peridot had just finished teaching a lesson on botany (namely, how to care for cacti), and was now tending to the plants in the greenhouse when a
MicaYes, they're a part of the Gem species - Confirmed via Yellow Diamond in "Change Your Mind".
showed up, saying how they wanted to see The Reef with their friend (who's a Pearl), but couldn't due to it being deactivated. After thinking about it for some time, this is Peridot's choice:

>Go to the Reef with them.

File: Peridot
Peridot is a quick-witted, resourceful Gem who's more durable than she looks, and is capable of putting her smarts to good use.

She started off as a Technician for Homeworld, but having been created during Era 2, she lacked the proper powers that most other Gems had. Instead, she had her Limb Enhancers which she used to ensure Homeworld's technology was well-maintained. Until she came across the Crystal Gems, who convinced her to defect from Homeworld to become one of their own, losing her Limb Enhancers in the process.

Now, she spends her time gardening, as well as teaching botany classes at Little Homeworld.

Strengths: She has Ferrokinesis, which is the ability to move metal around with her mind. She is also able to endure more damage than it seems.
Weaknesses: She's actually quite lacking in the offense department, not having much to use for that purpose.

Inventory: Peridot has 4 Attack Drones, as well as 4 Robinoids, that she can deploy at a moment's notice, being able to control them via her Earth Tablet. Additionally, she has a Trash Can Lid she can use her Ferrokinesis on to fly around, and give someone else an airlift if need be.

Viking Duck is back from Valhalla, and ready to take all the loot. Also, still a friend to animals.

>Scout out the soldier - determine its threat level and how much time there is to prepare. (Vivi)

Vivi, after much walking, finds herself a fair distance away from the solider, but still capable of seeing it. Black ichor spread outwards around it, clinging to the landscape. The soldier itself is clad in black armour, an expressionless helm upon its head. It wields a baton about the length of its forearm, and naught else.

Time to make your move.

>Go to the Reef with them. (Peridot)

And away you go to the Reef! How you do it, I'm not entirely sure yet, but you do make it in one piece.

***

Footsoldiers were warped beyond displaying human emotions, but the one observing those watermelons, against all odds, seemed exasperated at the mere sight of them. Well, an army's an army, and it wasn't gonna let fodder, no matter how weak, go to waste. It marched forwards, its baton raised.

Meanwhile, back at North Shroud, FD1 started its trek towards the village, with what any onlookers might state was a severe case of tunnel vision. Unattacked, undeterred - what doesn't hurt you can damn well be left alone. The village will be more useful now than anyone within arms reach.

Footsoldier drone 2: 10/10 health.

The Reef

After arriving at the reef with Mica and Pearl, Peridot finds signs of damage here. She knows Steven had been here recently, so she knew to expect it, but it looked more wrecked than before. Peridot couldn't even activate Shell, so she decides to:

>Make an attempt at repairing the system.
Viking Duck is back from Valhalla, and ready to take all the loot. Also, still a friend to animals.

fyi @SmilyCube112 "The Source" in our starting post referred to part of the XIV world and was not intended to be read as "the place the corruption showed up"

North Shroud
"It's approaching Fallgourd Float. Moving to intercept."

Vivi switches to gunbreaker, tosses a handful of Gysahl Greens to her faithful chocobo companion Birdy'mc'birdface, and charges the drone.

>Provoke to get the drone's attention, Rough Divide to close the gap, and
start swingingyeah yeah this video uses a different opener than the one we just described just go with it lol

>Make an attempt at repairing the system. (Peridot)

Roll: 4: Well, it's better than it was before, but still not quite in working order. It's enough to get Shell online, but not enough to do much else.

>Provoke to get the drone's attention, Rough Divide to close the gap, and start swinging. (Vivi)

The solider takes the full force of the Rough Divide, and a fair few subsequent slashes, before finally managing to dodge swiftly to the side. It looks somewhat damaged - a few big scratches on its armour, some of them deep but not usefully so.

Footsoldier drone 1: 7/10 Health

FD1 Reporting - backup requested. Skilled fighter witnessed. In the short amount of time it has, it readies its baton, glanes around for any onlookers, stops caring, and charges at Vivi.

CRUNCH. One melon Corrupted - any normal baton would've crushed it through and through, but not a Corrupted one. The Watermelon Steven... that was its species. And now that race, and that specific Watermelon Steve's knowledge, is known to the Corruption.

The Reef

Well, getting Shell back online was at least something, so Peridot tries to interact with the AI. "What happened here?"

"I-I was.........atta-ta-tacked. Something came through the-the warp pad. They-they had themselves scanned.........ex-except they were hostile. I was de-destroyed. Thanks for rep-repairing me......but now you ne-need to leave. I did not see them leave here."

That scared Mica and Pearl, and Peridot was unnerved. Still here? Not good, so Peridot decides to send Mica and Pearl back to Little Homeworld while she looks deeper.

>Investigate the Reef

P.S. The colour codes I used was #ABAD48 for Peridot and #3C9992 for Shell.

"Oh, so you do speak!" Vivi says.

>Keep fighting, but try talking while you do it

"So what's your deal, anyway? You show up out of the blue, blighting the land wherever you walk, and beeline for the nearest settlement - are you some kind of invading force, or what?"
nya
#16
>Investigate the Reef (Peridot)

(I am assuming that, since the place hasn't fallen to the Corruption, it was destroyed by Mega Pearl and Steven as per canon.)

Well, from your inspection, the damage was almost certainly done by a Gem. There's no telling which one, though. And, well...

>Keep fighting, but try talking while you do it (Vivi)

A few more blows to the tough guy, but not enough. Another dodge.

No. I am not an invading force. I am a part of it.

Footsoldier drone 1: 6/10 Health

Two more soldiers, much like the one Vivi fought, appear from the corruption. WE are the invading force... the Corruption, if you need a name for us, like so many others before you did.
Footsoldier drones 3 & 4: 10/10 Health
And... look, I'm not gonna write individual health bars for each watermelon beast/Steven that the drone fights, just know that it'll go up in Fibonacci numbers until you arrive there. (Try to get Peridot to know that something's going down, if you want to.)
I'm only dealing with one spawn point per player right now, just tell me if you want me to use the others that were pointed out.

The Reef

Peridot, after assessing the damages, decided to head back for now, only to see Garnet and Bismuth walking up to the Warp Pad.

"Oh, I just got back from the Reef. Seems the place was damaged by something."
"Doesn't matter. The Forge got destroyed."
"That place was my life's work! The best I could give to the Crystal Gems!
"WHAT?! Ok, why don't you let me see how bad the damages are. There might be a chance that we can repair it."
"Alright, you go first then."

With that, Peridot went to the Forge, only to see molten magma flowing everywhere. She was forced to use her trash can lid to fly around without worrying about the lava. And what did she see inside? A Watermelon Steven, apparently wearing lava-proofed armour. What does she do next?

>Try interacting with the Watermelon Steven.

"Well, that's great and all," Vivi says, dripping sarcasm, "but I think you'll find that a bit more difficult than you anticipated. How many gods have you killed?"

>Well, there's three now, so switch to AoE moves, but... basically keep swinging.

Birdy'mc'birdface is watching carefully, ready to heal Vivi as needed.
nya
#19
As Vivi begins swinging, another figure appears, with short dark purple and red hair. They're recognizable as an Au Ra, armed with a shining sword that nearly looks like a mirror, and a matching bronze shield on their back.

They run at one of the foot soldiers, ready to attack.

> Throw your shield at a footsoldier, grabbing their attention.

It seems unresponsive. Scared, even.

Area of Effect... successful. Yep, they've taken some damage, and dodged by a much less narrow margin than before.

> Throw your shield at a footsoldier, grabbing their attention. Then, swing at them with your sword. (Unnamed Au Ra)

Unfortunately, you're only able to hit one of the newer ones - the one that clumsily stumbled towards you. Oh, and the new one that you didn't hit caught your shield.

The Au Ra swears under her breath. That...was not supposed to happen. They hold their sword a little tighter, and glares at the drones.

The name's Yomuoka. And maybe you've defeated gods, but there's no dammed divinity in my veins. You've yet to kill me just yet!

Peridot was now a little scared, but nevertheless decides to see what other nearby areas of the landscape had been damaged by the ensuing lava.

POW

Peridot was suddenly hit real hard by an incoming projectile, and she was knocked off her trash can lid in surprise. Luckily, Bismuth had caught her before she hit the molten magma.

"Uh..........what was that?"
"Who knows? All I know is Garnet sent me through and I saw ya take a hit!"
"Well, thanks. Seems the damages are very minimal inside there. Worst that's happened is a loss of resources.
"That's a relief to hear. But, there might be someone else here."
"Agreed. We need to search the area."

>Search the area for potential attackers

"Thirty-eight, you say?" Vivi smirks. "I've got you beat, then."

>Vivi: Use Reprisal to cut the soldiers' damage output, Heart of Corundum on Yomuoka to give her some damage mitigation, and keep swinging.
>Birdy'mc'birdface: Use Choco Rush on the one that caught Yomuoka's shield and try to retrieve her gear for her

Dossier: Birdy'mc'birdface
Birdy'mc'birdface is Vivi Elakha's loyal company chocobo, granted to her long ago at the start of her adventuring career by the Order of the Twin Adder. Through years of dedicated raising, he's been trained to the absolute pinnacle of chocobo combat.

Strengths: Knows every skill a combat chocobo can learn.
Weaknesses: Predictably, he's not nearly the same level of combatant as Vivi herself. What's more, he's... a bird lmao. He doesn't have the same understanding of strategy as a spoken would, and left to his own devices, he'd mostly just swipe mindlessly at an enemy.

nya
#24
Yomuoka smiles at Vivi. It's the cocky sort of smile, the kind of someone who's absolutely certain they can do anything, no matter how stupid.

You with them? Or are you some traveler with an ego just as much up your arse as those fighters?

A beat.

Then Vivi lets out a massive laugh.

"Sure. You could definitely describe me as a traveler with an ego." If she doesn't know which traveler with an ego, that is 100% fine by me! "My name's Vivi Elakha, and I'm standing against these invaders."
