Well, even sociopaths don't do evil deeds "because they can"; they commit evil because it gratifies them. Floyd's need for validation comes from his pathological narcissism, while Autumn's need for validation comes from her cripplingly low self-image. The desire is the same, but Floyd's motivation is more malignantly selfish.
That's what I gather from how you've described your characters, anyway.
