The thing is, not all actions are equivalent. It all depends on how the actor handles the fallout of their actions.
Nobody's perfect, and as a matter of fact many people are decidedly imperfect. They may be genuinely suicidal or self-harming or clinically depressed. But that in itself is not an excuse to treat others badly, and if they realize that and apologize for their actions, then they're makingĀ a step towards being a more perfect person. And sometimes you have to respect that.
If you try to understand someone - if you try and empathize with them, try to figure out their reasons and their motivations - then it's easier to try to forgive them. Not always, but often enough. And I think I understand, and I think I forgive.
