I don't know why people don't like genderless Mx. Potato Head, except I assume they're not comfortable with the concept of genderlessness or androgyny in general.
Pepe Le Pew should not be giving kids the impression that it's okay to stalk and kiss people without their consent, though. (Certain adults could also stand to understand this...), and being okay with certain racial depictions or words was definitely more socially acceptable in the past. Often changed because those groups said to knock it off, please. (And yes, there are people up in arms that such things are being phased out... which...)

It's simply nostalgia and change. Mr. Potato Head is an icon.
