RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-02-2022 No, no, sspeech iss later. Thiss iss jusst commenting on how weird the ducktaless theme ssong iss. Actual sspeech floran will ssay before sstartss giving verssionss of. RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PointMaid - 07-02-2022 Of course, Boss. Of course. RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - MadameButterflyKnife - 07-03-2022 "Uh-huh, okay, if you're so smart, Sendri, what are the political implications of the Ducktales 2017 reboot, then?" RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 The theme ssong iss pretty much the ssame, yeah? Anyway, the reboot lookss much deeper into the fabric of the ductaless world. It sseemss to have an obssession with old money being better than new money, that new money iss inherently sstolen, that the only legitimate fortune iss sscrooge mcdooge'ss fortune. Thuss the character of Mark Beakss. Mark iss new money who sstealss ideass. He iss, in many asspectss, the generic tech CEO villain, but more importantly, the way he'ss introduced showss him as dissconnected, alien, and overwhelmingly weird. He iss to be loathed for his wealth, not resspected, unlike Sscrooge. Importantly, it'ss never brought up exactly HOW sscrooge got his wealth. It iss a given that he iss wealthy. At ssome point, he went from broke to having all the money, and implicitly, he did it in a legitimate way, but what wayss ARE legitimate iss not brought up. He literally hoardss trillionss of dollarss of cash on an issland. Thiss iss fundamental to his character. Thiss iss never brought up as a bad thing, and every time that ssomething iss brought up that he might have done bad in the passt, it'ss glosssed over with "but his opponentss who he sscrewed in the passt were alsso bad then, sso it'ss okay." Sscrooge iss pressented as winning not becausse of any perssonal virtue, but jusst becausse he'ss ssomehow better than everyone elsse. He desservess his wealth, and Mark Beakss doess not. The reboot fetishizess old money as ssomehow more legitimate than new money. The political implicationss are evident, and the theme ssong doess of coursse, imply thiss iss in-universse propaganda. That'ss not even getting sstarted on the implicationss of the moon-people arc. There'ss a lot of weird sstation-remaining-in sstuff there... or how the purple one totally had more romantic chemisstry with the duck than with the pelican. Like, floran doessn't like romantic plotss, but it was clear that ssomeone ssaid in the editing room "shit that'ss too gay, abort and replace with pelican" RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Kennifer - 07-03-2022 While trying to think straight, Inez is going to >go get a comment card from the kitchen RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-03-2022 Lloyd finally comes to the scene. They got the kid, huh? I feel like it's partly my fault since I knocked her out the previous day and exposed her, made her an easy target... >Try to remember if anyone left Studio A (where he stayed) the previous night RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Caret - 07-03-2022 "Might as well." Bow will also > grab a card from the kitchen table RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-03-2022 Other than me knocking out Inez and Bit doing her thing, everyone else was accounted for. > Also get card RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PointMaid - 07-03-2022 ...Wait. What are the comment cards about? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PointMaid - 07-03-2022 ...Fine, though, boss. I'll get one. > Pick up a comment card RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 Blank comment cards grabbed, along with pens. Meanwhile, Sendri is loudly crinkling paper in front of the microphone, creating an utterly obnoxious sound to get everyone's attention before any sort of speech gets issued. Thirty more minutess-ish probably! There's also the sound of an eye roll over the PA. It shouldn't be possible for an eye roll to be picked up, or recognized as such, but somehow it was such a great eye roll that it did and was. RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Caret - 07-03-2022 Bow tilts her head loudly. "Is it just me, or did you hear an eye roll...? Anyway, I stayed in the Rec Room last night. I didn't have a reason to go exploring." RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PointMaid - 07-03-2022 I just stayed in the Rec Room, too, yeah. Keeping watch. Unfortunately didn't see who did this. ...Even if I did, do holographic paws leave a mark? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Kennifer - 07-03-2022 "And I was knocked out all night so I didn't hear or see anything." RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-03-2022 So if Bit left that flour and that left tracks, this must mean... > Check people out and see who all has flour on their feet RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 The Director is about to give a speech, so take your attention and pay it! ...ookay then. Fuck. Alright. Here we go. Sspeech. Yep. Sspeech. Keep in mind what audience floran iss sspeaking to in thiss context, thankss. Iss for like, one of thosse sseminarss. Sso, today we're talking about replaceability! You are all replaceable. You are unique, but you are replaceable. Thiss ssoundss contradictory, but iss true. It'ss one of the great liess of ssociety that individualissm iss a real thing. In practice, individualissm iss jusst a different type of collectivissm. It encouragess people to "sstand out" from "the crowd", but in practice, doing that meanss not being an individual. There'ss the old thought-terminating cliche, "if everyone'ss sspecial no one iss". It'ss normally ussed to inssult people who want to acknowledge ssome group or another as being hurt by ssome policy. But in reality, thiss iss not what individualissm LEADSS to, thiss iss what iss fundamentally true. There iss no ideology short of ssolipssissm which ssayss that your uniquenesss iss unique. You are replaceable. No matter how good you are at what you do, it doessn't matter, becausse even if you're the besst at it, ssomeone elsse could ALSSO do what you do. Thiss iss how it workss. As a dictator, you need to remember thiss. Now, as an asspiring dictator, you are probably not wired to fully accept thiss. That makess it more important to undersstand. You need to take away thiss from thiss talk. You are, at leasst in the eyess of everyone elsse, interchangable with any given number of other people. You in your own eyess are great and powerful. Thiss might be true! But you need to accept that other people will tend to ssee you not as particularly different from anyone elsse. Thiss iss why the cult of perssonality iss sso fundamental, and thiss iss why you should grow it. Make your followerss think that you ARE NOT replaceable. You'll never get your inner circle fully on board with thiss, but you can keep them in line with threatss and bribess. Terror buildss a cult of persssonality, sscapegoating buildss one. Build one, and you'll have apologisstss for your regime long after you're dead, if you should end up dead. No one rememberss Pol Pot possitively. That iss what you need to know. Uhh next time, we talk about the wayss to ssilence disssent through both-ssidessing! Any thoughtss, quesstionss? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PointMaid - 07-03-2022 Yeah, actually, boss. This wasn't some roundabout way of saying I'm getting sacked, was it? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Kennifer - 07-03-2022 "No, actually no comments or questions, I know, hard to believe from me. I think I'm still a bit woozy from last night." RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 No, your job iss... fine, captain. You do your job, if floran was going to move you out of the power sstructure, you would know. Unlesss floran doess it ssubtle, and quietly reassignss you to like, "paperwork coordination captain" or ssome other meaninglesss title with no bribe opportunitiess. You're doing fine for now, probably. At leasst floran asssumess. You are doing your job correctly, right? And do be honesst with the feedback floran won't publically execute you unlesss you're actually voted off. RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PopcornPie - 07-03-2022 "Oh. I missed my cue." >Look at their comment card, what's it telling them to say? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-03-2022 Yeah, yeah, I'm replaceable, blah blah blah. Look, my search for flour on people didn't quite work since we all have it on us. Except for Karma, but seeing as she's stowed away easily, why would she? RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PopcornPie - 07-03-2022 "It's blank? Oh! I thought this would be like one of those conversation cards you get at parties." They ponder, then scribble a question. "If an interchangeable person becomes a dictator, are they still interchangeable?" RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 Yess, that was actually brought up in the sspeech, Mx. Trouble. Iss your lasst name Trouble, or iss that an aliass? Whatever. If you recall, the point iss that even as a dictator, you are replaceable to other people. They can and will attempt to replace you with you-but-with-bigger-bribess-and-lesss danger if they think they can get away with it. Thiss iss why you keep bribess and danger both high. The only true consstantss in the leadership can be you and very closse friendss. Otherwisse, keep it moving. RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - PopcornPie - 07-03-2022 [COLOR=#7aa174]"Oh, I apologize. I was more focused on this flour than really paying attention. Also, for constructive criticism, it's difficult to understand you with that snake-like lisp of yours. If everyone is replaceable, what is the purpose of becoming a dictator? That is to say, why doesn't everyone try to become one if they're so common and interchangeable?" RE: Your Final Frontier: Go 4th and perish! - Florien - 07-03-2022 Well, becausse ideally if you're coming to one of floran'ss thingss, you like the idea of having power. Or like floran, you're claiming ssovereign immunity for a totally jusstified murder of a total dick AND like the idea of having power. Becausse having power iss pretty cool. Ssure, anyone can be a dictator, but floran actually became one. Ssure, floran iss technically interchangeable with other would-be rulerss, but the ssubordinatess know that floran givess them more in good thingss and will make their little remaining life a living hell if they sstep out of line. Power iss great, becausse you can fix shit occassionally, or indulge in whatever petty shit you want to in between all the other sstuff. Power iss in a way, itss own reward. As for why not everyone triess, that'ss partially on the delussion of democracy and freedom. That'ss a different lecture sseriess, floran could go on about that in particular for hourss, but ssuffice to ssay, people claim to want and believe they want entirely different thingss than they actually want mosst of the time. And ssome people really don't like having power. It sstressses them. As for floran'ss accent, that ssoundss like a you problem. Jusst becausse the universsal transslatorss don't handle floran'ss and floran in general lack of an unhissssed ssibilant ssuper great doessn't mean it issn't comprehenssible. It worked before. People get ussed to it eventually, esspecially when it'ss a pretty general problem with the universssal transslator and our language. |
