The element of surprise is quickly lost, as the diversion starts. Late 19th century US military forces open a volley of fire on the encampment of mercenaries.
READY THE BALLOON!
LAUNCH IT, LAUNCH IT!
We'll stay back and coordinate the attack, you get in there and extricate the doctor!
With that, the Clonelands stay back at Air Horse One and circle the camp, making sure their anachronistic army keeps up the attack and keeps the mercenaries occupied.

Eyja eventually arrives at the camp, but she senses that there are already other forces. Acting quickly, she says to her group, "We must distract the guards and sabotage their defense system!"
Eyja herself then starts trying to locate the defense system using her remaining functioning senses.

The sound of gunfire fills the air as bullets fly in both directions, but thankfully, few shots are aimed at the balloon. The companies below are too busy engaging each other to take notice of the spotter balloon above. Smoke begins to choke the battlefield on the US Army's side, as they're using standard nitrocellulose and gunpowder, not cordite. Thankfully, the smokescreen works both ways, and the mercenaries can't get a good line of sight to exchange fire.

"We must make a distraction by throwing rocks or branches into the ground. We must then knock them out silently one by one, but if they are trying to attack us, don't be afraid to use our power. Besides, some of the guards seem to be distracted by other fighters."
Eyja then starts doing as she says, while slowly making her way inside the compound, locating and trying to disable the defense systems along the way.

The mercenaries can't retreat back to camp to retrieve their IR goggles, because if they do, the anachronistic army might break through their weakened lines. The situation quickly devolves into both sides firing blindly through the smoke, usually hitting nothing. The soil will probably suffer from lead toxicity for several years hence due to the lead bullets being used by the 19th century VERY MODERN army, unless cleanup efforts are made in the future. But the mercenaries are better equipped even without the goggles, and so with the surprise of being ambushed by a group of spanish-american war reenactors wearing off, they start to push back more strongly. Over the sound of gunfire, through a megaphone, the Clonelands start shouting.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO HURRY!
WE'RE LOSING GROUND!
GET THE DOCTOR AND GET CLEAR! WE'RE BRINGING IN ARTILLERY!Whatever their plans are with the artillery that apparently hasn't arrived yet, they'll likely be very explosive.

Stuart grabs Bob, JUMPS, whilst simultaneously holding X on one hand and Bob on the other, the end result is that they're both hanging off of X's arm, reaching out to Dr. Frankie.

[Once X sees Dr. Frankie grabbing the minions, he pulls all three of them back into the balloon as hard as he can, collapsing backwards from the weight of the three of them once they're all in.] "Whew...! Alright! Mission completed! Now let's clear!" [He raises the balloon above the smoke and moves back towards where they were previously. While he does so, he calls out to the other spotter...] "Amelia! We got her!!"

Guess there's no point in getting inside the compound anymore that Dr. Frankie is rescued. Eyja senses this because she feels the disturbance in the air that the hot air balloon makes, as well as the motion of people thriuhh it. Instead, Eyja, Kirby and Ribbon now have to fight their way out.
"Stick with me, Kirby and Ribbon! We'll make it through!" Eyja then starts going out of the compound, using her energy Arts to fight the guards by heating the ground beneath them, either forcing them to run away from the heat or sending blasts of hot rock up.
