A place to talk about Sega's "very serious crime drama" game series

Our very favourite franchise of karaoke and rubber explosions—and everyone's idol, of course. (Sunao ni I love him.)

Playing through 7 right now and I'm at Chapter 5, IIRC. I've been trying to dodge spoilers story-wise, but I'm pretty sure I've just hit the next dungeon. Everyone's at Lv. 15 minimum, some at 16; I dunno if I should grind or not, since I just barely managed to scrape by in the last one, and oh dear god this management minigame is the most convoluted thing how do these Pokémon type-ass meetings even work. At least we heed the Return of the Chicken Manager.

The substories are great, though. Yeeting a random crayfish over a bridge and playing Mario Kart in a Japanese crime drama are things I never knew I needed. Good to know we get gang-jumped by adult men in diapers in this one too.

Getting assaulted by baby kinksters is a rite of passage for a Yakuza protagonist.

Also yeah, Y7 is Very Yes

fun new minigames (love Dragon Kart!), weird and fun substories, the summons... Also you can use a goddamn orbital laser which means you know this is gonna be great

...and then there's the Grinding Hell Tower in the postgame. as in the TRUE one

I think I'm the only one that really likes the management minigame. My friend hasn't even gotten Eri yet.

Ah yes, Tartarus 2: Electric Boogaloo. Judging off Zan's posts about playing through it before I'm kinda terrified of what to expect.

Eri's unlocked by getting to Top 1, right? Sounds like hell. Apparently she's worth it for clearing bosses, but I really have no idea how I'm to pull that off.

Screw that, she's at the top 100. She's basically a gimme incentive for the rest of the minigame.

tbh I mostly just followed guides for recommended stuff to buy and such, upgraded everyone fully and so on

I thought it would be much harder than it was

Also yeah the grind is a Pain (though I might actually have overdone it a bit lol), looking back was it worth putting myself through all that grinding just for a few fancy pngs on my psn profile? (yes, yes it was)

Cleared Ch. 6 dungeon. That wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it was pretty tedious backtracking to the recovery station after every fight. Also, the boss being an excavator. Amazing. In terms of story Ichiban continues to be an endearing dork, and we get the first Le Iconic Back Tattoo Moment of the game, albeit not the standard 1v1 slugfest this time. There's also that fuckboy-looking sunglasses dude? No idea what his deal is but he is in fact a party member AFAIK.

That aside, everyone's at level 20 now—admittedly I should probably be using better gear, since all I've been using are the default setups plus some random-ass accessories from substories. I'm actually not sure how much they play into stats, exactly, but in general, holy hell are items expensive. Though it does seem that I've unlocked Mementos: Like a Dragon, guessing that'll do if I ever do end up needing to grind for cash.

Otherwise I haven't been doing much of minigames or part-time hero yet either. Gonna get on that, preferably before we go hunt down the dollar store BTS member.

So Sega recently put up a countdown for "Judgment Day" on the Ryu ga Gotoku site... judgment 2 confirmed possibly? Either way, seems like something Judgment-related is happening...

So there's been rumors that the aforementioned Judgment 2 is gonna be in the same RPG format as Yakuza 7

I fucking

LOVED Yakuza 7

But if they do go that route I hope they make the combat a bit deeper.
