The Hazelton Murders

You and 9 other people are brought into a pleasant town named Hazelton as investigators to solve the murder of the town's mayor, Charlie Pines. 

Gameplay

Gameplay would work similarly to Murder in Small Town X, where players participate in RNG style missions to find clues each day, with the player with the most amount of points would become the Lead Investigator for the day. At the end of the day, the Investigators choose two people to go to two different locations in the town. (One person is chosen by the Lead Investigator, the other is chosen by majority vote.) One location will provide another clue for the murderer's identity, and at the other location, the murderer is waiting to kill the other person.

Rules

1. All forum rules apply.

2. No Godmodding.

3. No turbo-lurking. If you sign up, try to post at least once an in-game day, preferably more. If you cannot participate for any reason, contact me and a replacement will be sought for.

4. Whilst jerkassery and the occasional off-color comment is okay, NSFW, inappropriate, or outright disruptive stuff is not.

5. This may not be a murdergame, but your characters still have the chance of dying. If you're not ok with this happening to a character, please choose one that you would be okay with them being killed.

6. @LavenderDream is my Co-GM, when you're sending DMs, remember to include them as well.

7. Less a rule, more a reminder, this is a heavily experimental concept, so little things may be tweaked here and there sometimes, but I promise nothing game-breaking.

8. This is more hybrid game than murdergame, because despite having murder, the murderer is an NPC as opposed to a player.

Name: Verekon Tynlander

Species: Presumably Human

Gender: Male, He/Him

Background: Was a long-serving journalist with a major paper in a different country back in the 90s, but left some time after the country fell into a bloody civil war. After somehow managing to get to whatever country this is, he was denied asylum repeatedly, and deported multiple times for arbitrary and frivolous reasons. Eventually, under an assumed identity, he obtained a travel visa and proceeded to overstay it. He has not yet been caught, due to having a very good sense of when exactly to disappear so as not to get caught or killed, which he developed from over 20 years living under various dictatorships. Why exactly he's investigating the murder is unclear, but he claims to be onto something big. Whether or not that's true is unclear, and even if it is, he freely admits that whatever's going on in the town is probably unrelated.

Personality: He's deeply paranoid and cynical and relentlessly pessimistic, but when not under significant stress he can pretend to expect more from people than he does. He's rarely seen without at least three layers of clothing, and complains about how cold it is seemingly regardless of the temperature. He's not particularly backstabby, but he's paranoid enough to make preemptive strikes if he latches onto the idea that someone is out to get him.

Abilities: As mentioned previously, he worked as a journalist for slightly over twenty years. He's slightly out of shape, but has markedly good night vision. He can also cook well.

Strengths and Weaknesses: He's very good at presenting nearly anything as a well-reasoned course of action, whether or not it is. Thus, he can convince other people of nearly anything, and bluff his way into restricted areas. He's also excellent at knowing exactly when to escape a situation, and resultantly if something starts going wrong, he can usually get clear well before any of the fallout catches up with him. However, he's 58 and his physical abilities aren't what they used to be.

Name: Terezi Pyrope

Species: Alternian troll

Appearance/Image:

Gender/Pronouns: Female, She/Her

Background: She grew up on Alternia living in a treehouse (instead of a "lawn ring" like some other trolls). Her lusus, or guardian, didn't raise her directly either (due to the fact that if the lusus's egg hatched it would tip a doomsday scale) but communicated with her telepathically. She used to do a lot of live-action roleplay with her teammate Vriska, but a series of escalating events in this game led to her becoming blind. Her lusus taught her to "see" by smelling and tasting colors. Since then she just roleplays in her room with her dragon plushies and online with friends.

Personality: Terezi has a strong sense of JUSTICE. Depending on the situation she can be cruel, weirdly flirty, or comedic. Her main interest is law and bringing criminals to justice, and she will do whatever she can to accomplish this. She also sniffs and licks things a lot to "see" them.

Abilities: She is pretty good at fighting with her cane, good at detective work, and can "see" by smelling and tasting colors.

Strengths and Weaknesses (At least one of each): She is pretty good at "reading" people and detective work. Her ability to smell and taste colors can come in handy but...
She is still blind, and this can be quite a hindrance especially if something prevents her from smelling/tasting things very well. (Good luck getting her to admit this though.) She also has a tendency to go a bit too far with the whole "justice" thing at times.

[Mr. Lee Hammer]

Name: Allen Wood

Species: Human

Appearance/Image: 6'2, 250 lbs. of muscle, black hair, brown eyes, beard. Dresses like Rambo. Pictures will be below.

Gender/Pronouns: I'm all male! I cook my meals with a flamethrower and grenades! I'm that tough! (laughs nervously)

Background: Allen Wood comes from very humble beginnings. He got his start in the theater scene in Hollywood before he was discovered by movie producers, who liked his looks and made him into a massively successful action movie star. He has become one of the biggest box office draws in recent years with his own brand of action movies that harken back to the Stallone and Schwarzenegger days.

Personality: Allen might act like the toughest and manliest man around. But it's all it is: an act. Underneath that bravado is somebody who is incredibly cowardly. Someone who's just all talk and doesn't really walk the walk. And being caught in a murder mystery, he might very well be out of his element.

Abilities: He's an actor limited to playing tough guy action roles. But some suspect that he can be capable of much more if given some material to expand his range. He can play the tough guy quite well. And as an actor, he can look out for certain things. Something that might aid him well in the mystery. He also carries all kinds of guns, knives and explosives, but they're all props, and as such, are totally harmless. The knife is plastic, the guns shoot blanks, you get the idea.

Strengths and Weaknesses (At least one of each): He can play the tough guy act real well. It could come in handy should he feel the need to intimidate someone into submission. And he also has quite a surprisingly good singing voice, for whatever that's worth. And he's also really strong. You need some muscle in your tasks, you can go to him. However, underneath that tough guy bravado, he's actually a coward. If you break through his act just right, you'll see what a coward he really is. And he's an actor. He might be strong, but don't let his muscles fool you. He's not really all that good in a fight. He's like an elephant after seeing a mouse.

Name: Shin Amon
Species: Human

Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him
Background: Part of the Amon Clan of assassins, Shin was trained from a young age to be a powerful fighter. Because of this, he aims to be the strongest and sees this as his goal in life. If he takes notice of someone who seem close to his power, he'll send them a challenge.
Personality: At first, he might seem somewhat serious and overly dramatic (at least most of the time), though if you manage to break through this, he's a surprisingly chill guy.
Abilities: Powerful fighting skills, photon swords, framerate drops
Strengths and Weaknesses (At least one of each): Like mentioned, he's a powerful fighter with a bunch of weird powers. However, he can get too arrogant and focused on "revenge" at times, and can deep down be insecure about not being strong enough and not living up to his potential or clan's reputation.

Name: Frankie

Species: Sentient Octopus

Gender/Pronouns: Female (She/Her)

Background: After her species made First Contact with humans, she learned about Earth electronics and became an IT desk consultant. Yes, the electronics for her species do have to be very, very waterproofed.

Personality: Usually bubbly and helpful! But she's been through a lot, having been in several Murdergames.

Abilities: Can fit into tight places and climb quite well with her tentacles. Can change the color of her skin. Can type really fast.

Strengths and Weaknesses (At least one of each): Curious, flexible, and methodical. Doesn't have much defense against physical attack, being an octopus. Also easily dried out, as her natural environment is an ocean.
