Anya and Elster silently look at Taira, then at the footprints.

"Susan's camp is in order, I guess..." The nymph shrugged. "The trail has gone cold."

"So we should try to reason it out then? Figure out who'd think to use a shovel and is strong enough to do that. 'Though being possessed could make somebody stronger, I dunno. And... did anyone seem to not like the dog? Trying to remember if there was some kinda conflict there. Or maybe just somebody who doesn't like dogs in general for some reason..."

Taira still looks miserable.

If I were to ask for any weapon to commit a murder, I would ask for an advanced Rek-Tel brand Plasma Charger. Not because I would know what that is, since I am a human, but because it sounds "cool". Personally, I did not dislike that talking dog, which is perfectly ordinary, and did wish for his continued existence.
hey who turned out the lights?
06-28-2022, 21:47:07 PM
I don't exactly see any way to get more evidence.
Hey, Taira, if you believe this is all a cunning trick, maybe you should play along! Then Brenna will be like "holy shit she actually did it I thought she wouldn't" and "no, I thought she'd not trust the awesome super-cool..." fuck we still haven't found a direct translation for it. Whatever, super cool people like your weird angry gay greek kid from a few thousand years ago, or the guy who was really into teambuilding exercises from less than that time ago, or any of the second guy's relatives who also did that stuff. The point is, help us get rid of Susan. Cooperation will allow us to reveal the whole trick Brenna played on you and explain everything! I am the They who says it!

...I just want to find out what happened to the poor dog.
I don't think Brenna would allow that. She loves dogs. There's more crying. Murdergames CharactersFrankie * Dr. Ruby Ramirez * Solanacae Bakersby * Sam Black * Selen(ium) * Reina Schultz * Dr. Francine "Frankie" Frankenstein * Lotta Schadenfreude Need a bigger bookshelf? Join me in The Library.

Exactly! That's why it's such a cunning trick! You'd never believe Brenna would kill a dog, so THINK! Obviously, she WOULDN'T! So either all this is real and you're talking to two lizards in heavy armor with power over time from another world who couldn't find a direct translation for what they do and seem to have very different technology from what you have here, which I don't think you'd accept, or the dog is still ALIVE!
Basically, Brenna faked the dog's death to help inspire you to believe in the supernatural. After all, who would randomly kill a talking dog? Why would a dog talk? So maybe if you just go along with the plan, you can find out that the simplest explanation, that of "Brenna faked the dog's death" and execute Susan without reason, Brenna will go like "holy fuck she actually sentenced someone to death based on almost nothing, I should end this charade before she's even more permanently psychologically scarred" I am the They who says it!

Yeah, she's not consoled.
If you could say a person was psychologically broken, you've done it. You've broken Taira. The dull metal clank of a gauntleted high-five follows the revelation that Taira is psychologically shattered.
We're great! Obviously. I am the They who says it!

"..."
Not wanting to touch on how cruel she thought all that was, Delilah would go try to comfort Taira. Which... she had no idea how to do, but she'll try. "Hey... um, do you need to talk or do you want to be alone?"
Stupid doomed timeline...

Taira looks up. ...I'm not sure. I think... I think I just want to be away from those two.

"Yeah, if they'd said that stuff to me, I would too. For the record, I... don't think Brenna had anything to do with the murder."
Of course she wouldn't add that this was because she knew the possession thing was the cause of the murders.
Stupid doomed timeline...

Anyway, moving on, single minded targeting based on nothing other than the one bit of evidence we're provided...
I mean we always have the option of a roleclaim, yeah? Not that it would help, we're too dense in normals to find contradictions super quick with a roleclaim. The point is, we are better off if we execute and get it wrong than if we don't execute at all. Iterations where we skip the first execution we lose more often than iterations where we don't. Oh, or you could try to console her and just help her stew in her refusal to look at the world around her instead of helping people survive. Let's be real, if the only evidence we've got is "someone was killed and someone medium did it", we're not going to get more evidence than that the next time. It's not going to get narrowed down further by more kills, we're just going to have more dead people and be back where we started. Also if it looks bad we could provoke a roleclaim from Susan. OH! OH! IDEA! IDEA! We know there's one of you who will always investigate as being against us, right? You're on our side, but against us. So, tell us if you're that person. Right now! I promise this is a good idea and will work out great. I am the They who says it!
06-29-2022, 00:06:42 AM
Taira started to wail again.
That... that's me. Fine, nobody has to go around wasting guesses just to find that out. I'll be at least that much help. If you investigate me I'll come up like one of them. I don't even care if you believe me. My whole life is a lie! Alright, anyone want to step up and contradict the really cool one who's fun to break and also fun when broken and not broken alike? Because that would be a VERY good claim for someone who's actually trying to come for us.
Don't worry about your life being a lie, Taira. Here, it might be. In our place, not so much. Maybe if you get out with us, we could drag you to a world where a science has been made of magic. THERE, there are RULES for how things are done. Reality is predictable. Mostly. Probably. What about the researchers who say randomness is fundamental? Ehh... they say that here too, yeah? Anyway obviously we'll drag her home after resetting if this goes through, can't have her knowing too much, yeah? Leaker, right? She'll be pissed though and we can't ever explain why we brought her in without dropping bombshells on her like "we do time fuckery". And you know, why are we bringing outsiders home? Or even offering? To share in our eternal dominion of course. Who wouldn't want to be part of that? I am the They who says it!

Quinarva shrugged. "Well, seeing as the real has gone cold, I think I'll just vote at random. Anyone else?"

Hey, would the one who does role detection check Quin tonight?
I mean, we vote, yeah? Makes some sense for us. But it seems weird for a nature spirit to so uncritically accept that the death penalty is required. Not saying vote for her. Do not vote for her. She might actually be sane here, but check Quin tonight. If anyone can contradict Taira, do so today. Do not investigate her, because she's just said that we can't gain new information from doing so. We should take out Susan right now though, because she's already got a vote. I am the They who says it!

"You seem...awfully quick to want Susan gone."
If you hear about someone putting characters through intense despair and misery, then that someone is probably me.
06-29-2022, 01:08:49 AM
You seem awfully quick to defend Susan when you claim you want to vote randomly.
Look, in practice, we're not finding more evidence. We figure Susan is as good a kill as any. Unless she'd like to claim a useful role, which I don't think she will. There's no willingness to jump on this wagon, which makes me think that we guessed right. After all, those out for blood would be happy to jump on Susan and blame us if it goes wrong if it wouldn't hurt them in the long run. I am the They who says it!
