2. If it's modern, and they're supposed to be teaching about the subject but don't understand the modern convention and that doing otherwise is considered rude and insensitive... I'm not sure I have a ton of confidence in the author.

I mean, the terminology is outdated, but I think the intentions are somewhat decent.

I mean it is at least true that not conforming to gender stereotypes does not necessarily mean you are trans. It can but... people are not cookie cutter stereotypes of gender.

I'd say "listen to your kid if they think they might be trans" is the right level of open-minded

but "assume someone is trans based on their interests/appearance/likes/dislikes when they have never said they are trans" is probably not.
