This right here is Pokemon Inclement Emerald, a newer hack that takes the classic Pokemon Emerald experience and spruces it up with a bunch of new content! That means new places to explore, new ways to encounter Pokemon, tougher battles along the journey, and (as of the latest update, version 1.7.1) 809 Pokemon to catch and train! I've been playing around with it a bit, and it's a blast, so I decided to share it with y'all.

There is a catch, however.

I'm going to be nuzlocking this game. That means two big things, and I think anyone who's heard the word "nuzlocke" knows what the first one is.
  1. When my Pokemon faint, they're dead, and I can never use them in battle again.
  2. I can only catch the first Pokemon I encounter in a given area. If I fail to catch it, I've lost my encounter for the area. Additionally, if I've already caught a particular Pokemon, I can't catch any other instances of that Pokemon.
These two rules form the basis of a nuzlocke challenge, but I'll be implementing some other rules to make things even harder on myself. You'll see what I mean when I get to that.

With all that out of the way, we have a lot of struggle and heartbreak to get to, so I'll just cut to the chase.

Chapter 1: First Steps

The game starts with the typical "welcome to the world of Pokemon" spiel from Professor Birch. Nothing much to note from the outset.

They added in this little section to give a basic summary of Inclement Emerald, which I already provided y'all with. I'll be skipping over that part.

Aha, here we go! This is where the other rules of my challenge come into play! I'm going to be playing on Challenge Mode, the hardest difficulty available to me! This means a few things:
  1. I can't use items in battle. That means no healing and no stat-boosting.
  2. Battle style is locked to Set Mode. That means that, when I take out an opposing trainer's Pokemon, I won't get a free switch to another of my own mons.
  3. Enemy trainers will have stronger teams. Pretty self-explanatory.

Actually, not quite. While Chikorita's notorious as being the worst starter Pokemon, Inclement Emerald has given most Pokemon some minor buffs that make even the worst ones worth using! As such, Chikorita's got some tricks up its sleeve that I'd like to try out.

Aplomb. I love that word. Wish the remakes kept it in, but unfortunately, they retranslated some of the dialogue, and we lost aplomb in the process. For shame.

Unfortunately, my game crashed and I had to completely redo that opening portion, but whatever! I'm just as fine off with Narcissus as I was with my original Chikorita. The nature could use some work, though. (A red stat means it's boosted, while a blue stat means it's weaker; Chikorita is a bulky special attacker, so this is really lackluster.)

I make my way up to Oldale Town, and here we see a pretty interesting change: Poke Marts now hold equippable items for battle, rather than Poke Balls and healing items. Those are instead sold within Pokemon Centers. Speaking of which...

Another cool addition this game has is the Poke Vial! It's like a one-use Pokemon Center that you can use whenever you want!

Narcissus got a level-up on my way to meet (and fight) Brendan on Route 103. Didn't realize Chikorita got Poison Powder this early. That's gonna be fun to play around with.

Brendan still only uses one of the Hoenn starters, regardless of what region you picked your starter from. Time to stall his Torchic out and hope it doesn't know Ember yet!

My encounter for Route 103 is a Shinx! Bit of a shame that he came with Rivalry rather than Intimidate (Intimidate lets me start off a battle with an Attack debuff on the opponent, whereas Rivalry... doesn't), but still, I appreciate whatever early-game Electric-types I can come across.

...Actually, with that nature and that ability, I can't be mad forever. I mean, sure, I would've preferred a Ralts or a Lotad, but Bidoof can be fun to use too.
Also, I haven't said this outright yet, but I have a mythology-based naming scheme going on with my Pokemon. Narcissus is an obvious one, but Ratatosk is the messenger squirrel who traversed Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, and Indra is a Vedic deity of storms. As for Doober?

He's Doober.

With that, I think I'll call it a wrap for this installment of my journey through Hoenn. It wasn't terribly eventful, but it was a start. Maybe there'll be some bloodshed in the next chapter! I mean, I hope not, but who knows?

I warned that this would happen.

So I started watching Riverdale the other day, don't ask me why, I just did. And I thought, hey, why would I do this if I can't make people hurt with me? So here we are!

First, some background. I know the characters of Archie, and that's about it. Apparently Afterlife with Archie is cool? Oh, and Archie Comics handled Sonic's comic, at least in the US, until Ken Penders came along and ruined everything. A Sonic crossover episode of Riverdale hasn't come out yet but I'm crossing my fingers.

So NORMALLY, I'd sit down, watch an episode, and recount what I saw and how I feel immediately afterward. But here's the thing.

I've seen the first episode of Riverdale three times now. One alone, one with my girlfriend, and another again just to... uhm.
Well I saw it three times, that's the important part. And I don't wanna watch it four times.

So for now I'm just gonna go off memory and if I fuck something up we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

With that in mind,


Chapter 1: Shut Up, Veronica

We open on the kid from Suite Life on Deck, here playing Jughead, explaining that he's from a town called Riverdale. He tells us that it's not like other towns, it's like Twin Peaks but boring. And it's like Twin Peaks but boring because one day Cheryl Blossom and her brother that she is way too close to Jason Blossom went boating. They hold hands, look each other in the eyes and talk like they're about to fuck? But don't worry, they don't. Jason just falls off the boat and dies, that's all. What a relief. Cut to them pulling Jason's body out of the lake, a woman named... uh. Hm. Well, ad later find out that she's the mother of Archie's best friend Betty. So Betty's mom says that she hopes Jason is burning in hell, like right in front of officers of the law. Which is definitely a normal thing to say about a teenage boy dying and not at all suspicious.

A cut to the implied daughter of this mom, Betty Cooper, hanging out with.
Jesus I've seen this episode three times and I can't remember his name, she's hanging out with... with, uh. Gay Guy.
So she's hanging out with Gay Guy and he's like "ya know if you wanna fuck Archie you better get on it, because he might be taken soon and whatall." Then he looks out the window and there's Archie now, with his shirt off! Get used to this sight, you'll be seeing it a lot. Or I will, at any rate. So Gay Guy goes "oh fuck, he's hot now! I'm the sassy gay friend, so I'm about this!"
Betty agrees.

Meet Veronica. You know, Veronica? Very rich Veronica, the title of this chapter Veronica? That Veronica. She's arrived at Riverdale in this... hotel? Mansion? Place that her mom owns, I can tell that much at least. After talking with one of the very polite people working there and implying she doesn't know what hamburgers are, we cut again to Archie and Betty
Okay I don't have to explain who Archie is right. You all know that already? Okay tight ANYWAY
We cut to Archie and Betty at a diner, Pops's place. And here we're introduced to one of Riverdale's more interesting mysteries, that is, when does this take place? There's modern day technology, MacBooks, earbuds, all that jazz, but it's all very clearly styled after the 50s aesthetic. So is this exclusive to the town of Riverdale, is this an alternate timeline where that styling never went away a la Fallout? It's an interesting question that I don't think the writers ever actually intended to be a question.
So anyway Archie and Betty are talking about... god I dunno, Norm Macdonald, when Betty decides here's where she'll ask him out. But oh here comes Veronica, demonstrating why I don't like her. You see, Veronica is a learned woman. And by a learned woman I of course mean she constantly references obscure things to sound impressive in a very frustrating way. She meets the two, talks about books and onion rings and leaves. and ohhhh my god I've wasted so much time here I gotta speed things up.

Uhhh Archie is with his dad, they talk about working at his dad's company, but Archie says he's gotta focus on Football, remember this. Betty shows Veronica around school and Gay Guy comes in and goes "hey, I'm a gay person." Veronica says she's now the Blue Jasmine of the school because nobody likes her dad. and we gotta pause before continuing the speedrun I didn't add the Blue Jasmine thing.
That's a real thing that her actor said with her whole mouth and everything. Think about that. A writer sat down, wrote Veronica calling herself the Blue Jasmine of this school, said "yep that's a line," then a whole other group of people said "yep that's a line," and every single person involved in this process gets paid more than you and I combined.

Okay? Got the dystopia in your mind? well you're living it

So after that, they're at an assembly where Cheryl Blossom remembers Jason and it's implied that Archie and his teacher Ms. Grundy fucked.

And that implication then becomes stone cold fact after we watch Archie and his teacher Ms. Grundy fuck.

Now Archie and Ms. Grundy who looks like that fucking is actually very important because they fucked on July 4th. Which aside from making it a very patriotic fucking, July 4th is ALSO the day Jason Blossom died. And they both heard gunshots shortly before Cheryl was found alone. Uh ohhhhhh!

Veronica and Betty try out for the cheerleader team that Cheryl leads and dawg imma be real this scene doesn't matter. Veronica and Betty make the team and that's the significance here. Betty is back home dancing around when her mom finds her in a cheerleader uniform. She's not happy about it because she's a crazy person and is happy about teenagers dying. Oh also Jason dated Betty's sister and things went bad? Being straight I cannot remember the details. Betty stands up for herself and gets her to get off her back MOM.

Later on, after some scenes that don't matter, they're at a party. Veronica tells Archie and Betty to ignore their tropes of jock and artist in this post-James Franco world (again, a real line that real people were paid real money to write) and they get to partying. Archie finds Ms. Grundy and says they need to talk about how they fucked on the day Jason died. She doesn't budge on that front because for some reason she doesn't want to come out about fucking one of her students, but she does at least let Archie visit her after school to discuss stuff which I guess will be important later. They then go to an after-party party at Cheryl's place where they play everyone's favorite game of non-consent, Spin the Bottle. It lands on Archie and Veronica. Well look, they don't fuck. Bit surprising but instead Veronica talks to Archie about Betty's feelings on him and how real they are. Unfortunately Betty doesn't know they aren't fucking so she runs off in tears. Veronica and Archie break apart to look for her.

While Archie is looking for her, he finds the kid from Sweet Life on Deck, who's writing a novel about Jason straight ass dying and Archie's like "man I dunno isn't it kind of crass to dramatize a guy's death like that" and Jughead is like "shut up Archie."

After this Archie finds Betty at her house. Because her own fucking house was his second guess as where she would be, and they talk. This is emotional.

See despite how much I talked nothing really happened in this episode huh. I don't really know what to take away outside of Veronica being annoying.

Meet Veronica. You know, Veronica? Very rich Veronica, the title of this chapter Veronica? That Veronica. She's arrived at Riverdale in this... hotel? Mansion? Place that her mom owns, I can tell that much at least. After talking with one of the very polite people working there and implying she doesn't know what hamburgers are, we cut again to Archie and Betty
Okay I don't have to explain who Archie is right. You all know that already? Okay tight ANYWAY
We cut to Archie and Betty at a diner, Pops's place. And here we're introduced to one of Riverdale's more interesting mysteries, that is, when does this take place? There's modern day technology, MacBooks, earbuds, all that jazz, but it's all very clearly styled after the 50s aesthetic. So is this exclusive to the town of Riverdale, is this an alternate timeline where that styling never went away a la Fallout? It's an interesting question that I don't think the writers ever actually intended to be a question.
So anyway Archie and Betty are talking about... god I dunno, Norm Macdonald, when Betty decides here's where she'll ask him out. But oh here comes Veronica, demonstrating why I don't like her. You see, Veronica is a learned woman. And by a learned woman I of course mean she constantly references obscure things to sound impressive in a very frustrating way. She meets the two, talks about books and onion rings and leaves. and ohhhh my god I've wasted so much time here I gotta speed things up.

Uhhh Archie is with his dad, they talk about working at his dad's company, but Archie says he's gotta focus on Football, remember this. Betty shows Veronica around school and Gay Guy comes in and goes "hey, I'm a gay person." Veronica says she's now the Blue Jasmine of the school because nobody likes her dad. and we gotta pause before continuing the speedrun I didn't add the Blue Jasmine thing.
That's a real thing that her actor said with her whole mouth and everything. Think about that. A writer sat down, wrote Veronica calling herself the Blue Jasmine of this school, said "yep that's a line," then a whole other group of people said "yep that's a line," and every single person involved in this process gets paid more than you and I combined.

Okay? Got the dystopia in your mind? well you're living it

So after that, they're at an assembly where Cheryl Blossom remembers Jason and it's implied that Archie and his teacher Ms. Grundy fucked.

And that implication then becomes stone cold fact after we watch Archie and his teacher Ms. Grundy fuck.

Now Archie and Ms. Grundy who looks like that fucking is actually very important because they fucked on July 4th. Which aside from making it a very patriotic fucking, July 4th is ALSO the day Jason Blossom died. And they both heard gunshots shortly before Cheryl was found alone. Uh ohhhhhh!

Veronica and Betty try out for the cheerleader team that Cheryl leads and dawg imma be real this scene doesn't matter. Veronica and Betty make the team and that's the significance here. Betty is back home dancing around when her mom finds her in a cheerleader uniform. She's not happy about it because she's a crazy person and is happy about teenagers dying. Oh also Jason dated Betty's sister and things went bad? Being straight I cannot remember the details. Betty stands up for herself and gets her to get off her back MOM.

Later on, after some scenes that don't matter, they're at a party. Veronica tells Archie and Betty to ignore their tropes of jock and artist in this post-James Franco world (again, a real line that real people were paid real money to write) and they get to partying. Archie finds Ms. Grundy and says they need to talk about how they fucked on the day Jason died. She doesn't budge on that front because for some reason she doesn't want to come out about fucking one of her students, but she does at least let Archie visit her after school to discuss stuff which I guess will be important later. They then go to an after-party party at Cheryl's place where they play everyone's favorite game of non-consent, Spin the Bottle. It lands on Archie and Veronica. Well look, they don't fuck. Bit surprising but instead Veronica talks to Archie about Betty's feelings on him and how real they are. Unfortunately Betty doesn't know they aren't fucking so she runs off in tears. Veronica and Archie break apart to look for her.

While Archie is looking for her, he finds the kid from Sweet Life on Deck, who's writing a novel about Jason straight ass dying and Archie's like "man I dunno isn't it kind of crass to dramatize a guy's death like that" and Jughead is like "shut up Archie."

After this Archie finds Betty at her house. Because her own fucking house was his second guess as where she would be, and they talk. This is emotional.

See despite how much I talked nothing really happened in this episode huh. I don't really know what to take away outside of Veronica being annoying.

For the keen-eyed Jojo fans among you: Yes, I am going up against Diavolo's Passione. He started off on a landmass with the Shoshone, but somehow managed to found at least five whole cities.
Also present are two city-states: Sidon (see that purple dot on the map? That's their one-tile-island kingdom) and Wittenberg. Wittenberg is a religious city-state, but that ain't my priotiy (ignore the faith output I built a shrine for religion but missed the tundra belief). What IS my priorty, however, is the military, and Sidon can help with that if I ally with them.
In terms of non-civ mods, I have some mods that add to espionage, late-game military, and governments.
I have just converted my government from a lowly tribe to a functioning Democracy. This gives me a few buffs, including a free writer. Everything in my empire's on hold for now due to anarchy, but it'll be fine next turn.

Now, turn 104. I'm just doing some basic stuff: securing a route to the new city, allying Sidon, and starting to research Iron Working to get a Heroic Epic to put my Great Work in. I also met Japan, who are apparently Diavolo's neighbours. I feel kinda bad for Oda right now.
Turn 109: Those ruins near Old Faithful? Gave an extra population to one of my cities. How did they get there so fast?
I was joined on the island by a Shoshone scout. Seems like they know how to embark. Let's hope they don't beat me to the ruins.
I also discovered another island! Ivory, horses, ruins, and some minor XP gain! This place has it all.
Some time has passed. I won't clog everything up with images, so here's the long and short of it: Diavolo took the Monarchy government, Oda took the Poetocracy government, I cleared out the barbarian camp on the smaller island, and I discovered Iron Working. I'm starting to lose grasp of Sidon, though. Maybe I should wait a little while.
Oh, and, turns out there are barbians on Old Faithful Island. Joy...
Now it's turn 119. Vatican City, another religious city-state, has been discovered in the snow. I'm sending a settler to Old Faithful, and it should arrive in a few turns.
Turn 121. I am selling whales to Diavolo, and I have completed the Liberty policy tree. Gained a great artist, getting me some more culture (couldn't pick a scientist for whatever reason), as well as a free settler.
A couple of turns later, I have entered the middle ages. One free spy, sent straight to Sidon to rig elections, has been grabbed. I found the Moors, led by Abd-ar-Rahman III. Like me, they're in a chilly spot.

The small island near it also now has a city: Neapolis. Both cities are important for controlling these seas in the early game. I mean, nobody's got anything that can go into deep ocean yet, so... I'd better use it while it lasts.
I've also met the Iroquois. They're far away.

Anyway, welcome to my playthrough of the 2000 game Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado. Specifically, I'm playing the PC version. I've been in an El Dorado mood lately (if you somehow couldn't tell), so this game was an obvious choice for my first let's play. Unfortunately, most of the reviews I've read on this game have been... mixed at best, so we may be in for quite the experience. Also, before we begin, I just wanted to show this wireframe thingy of Tulio that I found in controls configuration. I just think it's neat!

So if you... OH GOD. OK, maybe these graphics were good for 2000, but... yeaaaahhh. As I was saying. If you're not familiar with the plot of the film (and by extension, this game), here's a quick, spoiler-free summary. Tulio (left) and Miguel (right) are two Spanish con artists living in early 16th century Spain. They win a map that leads to the mythical city of El Dorado. Miguel is eager to follow the map, but the more skeptical Tulio doesn't buy the whole thing. After a series of little incidents, they end up on an escape boat with Hernan Cortes' warhorse. Eventually, the three wash up on the shore of the New World. They follow the map's directions and eventually discover El Dorado, where they are mistaken for gods! And yeah, there's the friendly chief, the villainous high priest, the love interest and fellow con artist, and an armadillo who may or may not be the actual god. Or some guardian angel or whatever.

The game proper starts off with Miguel and Tulio discovering a wanted poster of themselves. Not wanting to be noticed, Tulio makes the smart decision to remove the poster.

After removing the poster from the wall, the duo notice a man selling corn imported from the New World. Tulio decides to buy a bag for one peseta. Not a bad deal, right? Except that was their only money. Damn, these two are poor.

They walk a few steps further and notice another man selling chickens. For twenty pesetas. Yeah.

Luckily, Tulio gets the idea to bait a stray chicken nearby with the corn that he bought. He figures that the chicken man will buy the stray chicken for twenty pesetas.

Except not. The chicken seller offers them five pesetas for the stray chicken. Miguel points out that he himself sells chickens for twenty. But the merchant basically tells him "that's how the market works" or whatever. What an asshole.

We then get to the dice minigame. The fucking dice minigame. I really hate this part. Like, really. I don't even want to get into it. It just sucks, dude. For real.

After winning that god awful minigame, Tulio wins a map to El Dorado. Also, Miguel and Tulio are now free to walk through other parts of Seville, since one of the guards left.

After doing some wandering, the boys encounter a bullfighter who calls himself "The Great Malezo". This one chick goes fucking cray-zay over him. Fangirls. Malezo boasts to the two about having defeated "the devil in bovine form", El Diablo. However, Miguel and Tulio both write Malezo off as not worth their time and leave.

They then encounter this little boy with a slingshot. The kid is guarding the area for some reason, and when they get too close, he hits them with his slingshot. Tulio then gets the idea (he's the idea guy if you haven't guessed by now) to put Miguel in a fishy smelling barrel so he can walk past the boy unharmed. The kids accuses them of cheating and runs off, conveniently dropping his slingshot in the process. Tulio picks up the slingshot and the duo heads off.

So yeah, that's part one of my playthrough. I'm stopping here 'cause I don't wanna post too many screenshots. I'll probably post tomorrow or the next day. Hope you guys enjoyed this first part!]]>

Many Pokémon challenge runners have stood up to the test of completing an entire game using only a single weak and unevolved Pokémon. MahDryBread, Jrose11, Pokémon Challenges, you name it. So I figured, if it's that easy, why not try it myself? In this run, I'm seeing if I can beat Pokémon Sapphire with nothing but a single Slakoth—and no items in battle. Can I do it? Only one way to find out.

The reason I picked Slakoth is of course its Ability, Truant. If you don't know, a Pokémon with Truant will “loaf around” and not use a move every two turns. Despite Slakoth's base 60 Attack and Defense, which is surprisingly good for an unevolved Pokémon, Truant combined with its other stats being weak will make even the early game tough. It's an ability tailor-made just for Slakoth and its final evolution Slaking.

Which begs the question: why does Durant have it?

SOLO RUN RULES
* I must catch a Slakoth in Petalburg Woods and only use it for the rest of the game. I am not allowed to evolve it.
* I am allowed to catch other Pokémon for HMs, so long as I don't use them in combat. They must gain as little experience as physically possible.
* In-battle items are banned. Held items and out-of-battle items are fair game.
* Save scumming is allowed. I can reset from my last save by pressing A+B+Start+Select whenever I want.
* Emulator-specific tactics such as savestates and speedup are banned.
* The run ends once I defeat Steven Stone.

With my options and Trainer all set, I was ready to go. Also, #DownWithShiftMode.

After going through the usual motions, it was time to pick my starter. Now, MahDryBread always does this thing in his solo runs where he replaces a specific starter with his Pokémon to make sure the rival will have a type advantage over it.

Well, I'm not MahDryBread, so I picked Mudkip. It learns every required HM, but I would still need more HM Pokémon.

Unfortunately, both the first Trainer battle on Route 102 and the first Brendan fight were completely unavoidable and caused Mudkip to gain some experience. Hopefully this is where it stays. I managed to avoid all other Trainers on my way to Petalburg.

I fainted for the first time against the Lass on Route 102, as Zigzagoon are the single most annoying Pokémon for Slakoth to deal with, as they're really fast and can lower her Attack with Growl. And she had two of them. So I reset, focusing on the wild Pokémon instead before moving to Trainers. Fortunately, Scratch is 100% accurate and has STAB.

I demolished the 6-Wurmple Bug Catcher and the Team Aqua Grunt in the woods and went to battle the Trainers on the second half of Route 104, wherein I had not as much trouble as before due to Slakoth's higher level. One Trainer did give me problems, though.

This Shroomish had Effect Spore, which put me to sleep *twice* on the first attempt, which caused me to faint and restart. (At this point, I'm not keeping track of faints anymore.) Second attempt, she paralyzed me, which is scary when combined with Truant. But Slakoth stood up against the odds, ate her Oran Berry, and attacked on every turn she could, winning the fight.

Many Pokémon challenge runners have stood up to the test of completing an entire game using only a single weak and unevolved Pokémon. MahDryBread, Jrose11, Pokémon Challenges, you name it. So I figured, if it's that easy, why not try it myself? In this run, I'm seeing if I can beat Pokémon Sapphire with nothing but a single Slakoth—and no items in battle. Can I do it? Only one way to find out.

The reason I picked Slakoth is of course its Ability, Truant. If you don't know, a Pokémon with Truant will “loaf around” and not use a move every two turns. Despite Slakoth's base 60 Attack and Defense, which is surprisingly good for an unevolved Pokémon, Truant combined with its other stats being weak will make even the early game tough. It's an ability tailor-made just for Slakoth and its final evolution Slaking.

Which begs the question: why does Durant have it?

SOLO RUN RULES
* I must catch a Slakoth in Petalburg Woods and only use it for the rest of the game. I am not allowed to evolve it.
* I am allowed to catch other Pokémon for HMs, so long as I don't use them in combat. They must gain as little experience as physically possible.
* In-battle items are banned. Held items and out-of-battle items are fair game.
* Save scumming is allowed. I can reset from my last save by pressing A+B+Start+Select whenever I want.
* Emulator-specific tactics such as savestates and speedup are banned.
* The run ends once I defeat Steven Stone.

With my options and Trainer all set, I was ready to go. Also, #DownWithShiftMode.

After going through the usual motions, it was time to pick my starter. Now, MahDryBread always does this thing in his solo runs where he replaces a specific starter with his Pokémon to make sure the rival will have a type advantage over it.

Well, I'm not MahDryBread, so I picked Mudkip. It learns every required HM, but I would still need more HM Pokémon.

Unfortunately, both the first Trainer battle on Route 102 and the first Brendan fight were completely unavoidable and caused Mudkip to gain some experience. Hopefully this is where it stays. I managed to avoid all other Trainers on my way to Petalburg.

I fainted for the first time against the Lass on Route 102, as Zigzagoon are the single most annoying Pokémon for Slakoth to deal with, as they're really fast and can lower her Attack with Growl. And she had two of them. So I reset, focusing on the wild Pokémon instead before moving to Trainers. Fortunately, Scratch is 100% accurate and has STAB.

Day one.

Greetings Journal! I'm Guardian Ilantz, but you can call me Chekon. I just passed my finals, tamed some rogues, and I'm transferring over to a mining colony to go get administration credits so I can get noticed and get a cool job, not get stuck working the guard shift in some stupid old lab, inevitably to get accidently killed by some drunken shaper deciding it would be a great idea to make a mine that spits poison. I managed to file my forms and get a living craft. Very practical, though it's kind of too closely related to Drayks for my liking. You're not supposed to make those without explicit permission. Stupid customs agent took my armor, broadsword, and baton collection though. Apparently I didn't tag them right. She said they'd be sent ahead, but she probably sold them. Passed some cool islands on my trip. They look nice, but apparently one of them is barred. I'm not supposed to go there unless I've been told to. Otherwise, I might get arrested or even executed. Probably for the best. Also, there's some kind of boat over there. It looks weird though, I don't think I've ever seen a boat that looks like that before. I'll go wave to them!

Okay shit this isn't good. I got my armor back, apparently, though. Sure, it looks nice, but it won't protect me against whatever vile creatures come to kill me here. Ugh. And I'll have to explain this to the shaper council, and UGH. Just... NOT a good day so far. Now, if I could swim, that would be nice. But I can't swim fifty miles to the mainland, I'm not that good. I should have stayed an outsider. Government work just isn't for me, if this is what it entails. Maybe I could have become a mage. Or a security guy. Oh well, no point in worrying too much now. Maybe there's a boat somewhere that I can use to get back off of here.

Also, maybe the harbormaster's office has something for me. I should check it out.

Huh. That's weird. I've seen things LIKE that, but I haven't seen that kind of thing specifically. It's about knee high, glass, with some fancy puresteel bands. Also there's a needle and glass lid, presumably which I'm supposed to stick my hand onto. Maybe it's some kind of archaic healing or essence pod, after all, this place looks like it's been barred for a couple centuries at least. Anyway, if it is, I should probably use it. I'm tired as fuck from swimming to this island. I'm going to poke it and see what happens.

Never was that good at throwing or shooting though. Always preferred stabbing. Well, I suppose I'll keep walking. Maybe there's a boat further up the dock area. No clue why this place was barred.

Total side note, never seen one of these things before. I'll call them canisters for now. They seem cool. I wonder if there's more. Normally I wouldn't have been told how to do those spells until after I passed a battle magic course. Hell, I probably wouldn't have been told until at LEAST after I got my first couple administrative credits.

Okay, I got through the guardpost with the key, got an actual weapon, and a shield. Went into the barracks. Seems like everyone left quickly. Lots of crap left behind. I took it. Plenty of actual healing pods. Then I walked up the path some more. It's quiet for a barred island, you'd think there would be more rogue creatures trying to kill me. Also, I've found an interesting building. I'm going to go inside.

It's an inn. That's... bad. Normally these research facility islands are small, boring, don't even have that much stuff on them. Outsiders rarely show up. Certainly not enough to justify an INN right by the dock. This implies there's a hell of a lot of stuff on this island. It also implies whatever got this place barred must have been some BAD SHIT to justify closing such a big facility. Now I'm nervous. Whatever's going on here, I don't like it, and I want to go home.

Another side note, I did find a lot of cool clothes lying around. They're less utterly terrible, and I put on the nicer ones. The rest I'll keep, in case I have to spend a few weeks here while waiting for help. I guess I'll keep moving.

Good thing I took Butchery as a GE back in shaper school. It seemed like an easy A, and it was. I got some nice cuts of meat from the ornks, and cooked them with my new hand-fire. Delicious. Also, I found a cool gem just lying in a storage bin over in a corner. I'm keeping it, it looks really nice. Maybe it will look nice in my camp out here while I await rescue. Also, I broke into a storeroom, (thank fuck for lockpicking skills developed when I stole the answer keys to a lockdown procedure test.) I found some cool shiny rocks. I think they're combat crystals. Then, I headed north. Came across an old shaping hall. A dock one, not a particularly experimental one. It didn't even have a decontamination chamber. Probably for making Thahds and things for carrying boxes. A healing and essence pool of course, still alive too!

But the mind seemed in good condition, so at least things seem to be working out.

Also, I found a baton and some thorns for it! Nothing special, but it's cool, I can probably shoot a few things with this here thorn-flinger. Also, holy crap a quarantine hall, and the inn is OUTSIDE this thing? This must have been a REALLY impressive island. It's a nice big one too.

Oh cool, it's still alive! They're good at surviving when they need to. Maybe it can open the door, or tell me where the boats are.

Apparently its name is "Tavit", and it's been here since the island was abandoned. It didn't elaborate beyond it being a research facility. But it said I passed the quarantine check, so it opened the door. I suppose I should go through that door then. It doesn't know where the boats are, or why the island was abandoned though. But the mind seemed in good condition, so at least things seem to be working out.

Hey, look, a servile and some ornks outside the door! I guess this island can't be so bad. Serviles are pretty weak and unimpressive, they'd have been wiped out if there were any really bad things here. It looks to want to talk to me! Probably wants some orders. Serviles are great. They're somewhat smart, obedient, etcetera. We invented them to do our menial labor hundreds of years ago. Anyway, I'll talk to it.

Okay, so now I'm very confused. His name is Timo, apparently. But more to the point, he wasn't immediately obedient. When I said I was back, and expected obedience, he seemed scared. He referred to living in a village just east of here, and called the other serviles "people", and mentioned "wise" ones. Serviles call one another serviles, not people, and certainly, I've never heard of serviles being wise. This... This could be a problem. What if they're rogue and leading me into a trap? Serviles can't go rogue, right? Can they? I'd think we'd make them not able to do that... right?

I'll... I'll follow him later. I need to sit down for a moment. I'll just butcher these ornks he left here, and see this village. Maybe, maybe I'll be able to see what's happening then. This place's all mine, but I need to give it a name. Hmm...

Don't mind too much of my looks now! They didn't allow me to carry my trusty hat through the transportation thingie vroom vroom that brought me here. This is the best you'll get. Anyways, back to what I was saying...

Soon after I entered, a look-a-like of me came to visit. He looks somewhat dopey, but I suppose there isn't really anyone else.
Maybe some food to establish our friendship, perhaps? Sounds good! That food stop over there just finished building, just in time!

I still haven't really finished moving in, so I entrusted my look-a-like to get me some food. As expected from someone who looks like me, he nailed it and gave me a good, well prepared steak, with vegetables for garnish, even! Not as some part of the dish itself, which ruins the taste.

Yet, it's still a bit lonely. Maybe Look-A-Like Awe knows some friends he can bring over. Maybe they could actually, you know, look good while obeying the weird regulations people seem to have when going on this island unlike me.

... After a bit of waiting, I hear Look-A-Like Awe brought a friend of theirs called Cutbug. I heard she's a trendsetter, so after 5 minutes that felt like rehearsing 100 possible futures our conversation can go through, I visit their apartment.

Aaand seems like it went well! The feeling of being a good pal is mutual among us, it seems. I knew that one extra imaginary conversation devolving into an argument would've helped.

I suppose adding some new friends could help... this first row is kinda empty with just the two of us. But a new friend's more than enough, so as symbol of my gratitude I donate some money to fund a fountain!

Alas, it seems like my donation has earned favor with the look-a-like! A new friend by Okami... Lastname has arrived. Not judging, just... ok, maybe I am being a little judgemental. But still, she sounds nice to be around.

It seems my donation has went a little farther, as while I was hanging out with Cutbug, another islander by the name of Custard And Pie came by! Heading out to meet them, I saw the newest shop and just knew it was going to be one hell of a trendy place. As I headed to their door, I hear them saying 'Ah, fuck'. Assuming they're concerned with something, I head back, disregarding the fact that they literally just said a swear word without the magic pronouncing curse kicking in.

I then try to visit Okami, but apparently she's worried too, with a worriedly worried 'bro' coming from the door. Okay, then. I guess I'm just hanging out with Cutbug then.

As I get my problem addressed, a boy named Dookie moves in and immediately disintegrates infront of our doorstep. I shrug it off and head back to my home, seeing Dookie un-disintegrate and head into his room. I ask Look-A-Like-Me a question and... woah, level up. Nice! I feel confident enough to try out rapping!

Before that, I peek out of my bedroom windows to see any activity- see if people actually go outside instead of hermiting inside like me. I see Custard running around in the beach, which is cool and all- but I've got a song to sing and I'm going to do it right now, even if...
... even if the lyrics are very questionable and APPARENTLY sourced from 'professional writers' as Look-A-Like-Me mentions. I don't think there's like a single rhyme on this.

Look-a-like me started streaming the song to the professional writers as some kinda review thing. The reviews were positively glowing, but I suspect sarcasm is afoul.

Saw Look-A-Like Awe running around helping some people. They gave Custard some pancake and I heard some megalomaniac cursing from Dookie's room about how he's going to turn him into a 'k pop star for all of his consecutive disintegrations forever and ever'.
