The cat is interested in eating, and Kirby's flying does give him the ability to show the food to the cat in more places, luring it out. Cooking or heating up the food does give the aroma more reach. The only problem is that once the cat is lured out, it's still not so easy to see or catch! ...Kirby does eventually, but it's a lot of effort.

Finally, the cat doesn't seem so easy to distract. The cat has already sneakily taken bits of the food while luring it out, so it's not so hungry. The book ends up with claw and teeth marks all over.
