[The last thing you remember was watching the news.]
[A psychotic cult calling itself "the Virus Fragments" was quickly rising in numbers and wreaking havoc in Alpine County. The main building of the renowned MAE Robotics and AI Institute had been set ablaze, its trusty administrator nowhere to be found. You had initially dismissed this as fearmongering, the mainstream media blowing things way out of proportion as usual—until the Fragments broke down your door. What happened next went too fast for you to process; all you can remember is one of them shooting you in the eye with a blow dart, and then blacking out.

Now, you've found yourself shocked awake, crudely tethered to the wall with electric wires. Several others are there with you, some conscious, some unconscious, all hooked up to those tubes. The room is dim, lit only by the occasional candle. Where the hell are you?

Suddenly, you hear footsteps. Looking up, you find a staircase on the opposite side of the room, with two sharply-dressed individuals descending it. The copious red accents on their clothing betrays them as Fragments—were they the ones who brought you here?

The man with the mustache is the first to speak, his glasses flickering menacingly in the candlelight.]

Rules

@MadameButterflyKnife is my co-GM, so treat her the same way you'd treat me. If she says something, listen to her.
No turbolurking. If you sign up, then for all intents and purposes, you must participate until you die. If, for whatever reason, something comes up that prevents you from being an active participant, PM me or Knife and we will remove you from the round and search for a replacement. If you don't post for 48+ hours without giving us a reason for your absence, you will be removed from the round and replaced.
No godmodding or puppeteering others' characters. Your character(s) is/are yours, others' characters are theirs. Easy enough.
Editing posts is strongly discouraged, as it can be used to hide important information. You can just as easily make a second post correcting anything that was wrong in the first one, or holler a mod if a formatting error happens.
If the pace of the game is too quick, I'll install a slowmode. Just try to be chill, alright?

If we receive more than 16 signups in that time period, priority will be given to people who were in the original .EXE 3 (with obvious exceptions); the remaining slots will be filled in randomly, and those who don't make it in will be on-deck as replacements. Otherwise, apps will close at 16 applicants, and you can sign up to be a replacement afterwards.

Personality/Backstory: ... The Ultimate Analyst, she suffers from retrograde amnesia, causing her to suffer from short-term memory loss. This, in turn, causes her to carry around a notebook just to make sure she doesn't forget stuff... Including her own name. She's not even sure of her identity, and is seeking to discover who she actually is... But who knows... Perhaps some memories... should stay forgotten.
Abilities: Ultimate Analysis, allowing her to analyze anything and any situation. She also carries around a notebook which she uses to write down anything she deems of interest... Mostly to make sure she doesn't forget it.

Personality/Backstory: Byakuya is an arrogant, prideful man who considers most others beneath him. The winner of a competition between 15 of his siblings for being the heir to the Togami legacy, he became known as the Ultimate Affluent Progeny. Soon afterwards, he was forced to take part in the Killing School Life, being one of the survivors of the event and mellowing out slightly as a result.
Abilities: Genius level intellect.

Personality/Backstory: A married couple. They met while working on website design at a startup. She's the coder, logical, direct, problem solver. He's good at design, and usually follows his heart. They have a shared love of jazz music, crossword puzzles -- and hiking.
Abilities: Ada is good at computer coding and logic. Chip is creative, and and emotionally sensitive.

Name: Olivia Lynn

Appearance (either use an image or post a description): A 25-year old woman with fair skin, stands 5'3 and 125 lbs. Has dark-brownish black hair with it tied into a ponytail, innocent-looking blue eyes and glasses. Her attire consists of a long-sleeved violet button down shirt, black slacks and dockers (image will be below)

Gender/Pronouns: Female, she/her/hers

Personality/Backstory: Olivia comes from a small town and growing up there was not a happy experience for her. She had a rough home life and was bullied often in school for being seen as the "weird and awkward one." All this has caused her to have some built-up anger inside her. Something she tries very hard to repress. But she also has the bad habit of it seeping out whenever she talks. She might cuss out the people in her life, say some very colorful threats. In spite of this, she's mostly a shy, awkward person and is friendly enough, even if her more off-putting tendencies get the better of her.

Abilities: She works good with computers (as she has done some IT work in her adult life), and she's also quite good at being the RNG's butt-monkey (if Like Tears in Rain is anything to go by).

Other (things like text color and whatnot): This Olivia will be a bit different than her LTIR incarnation. I gave her anger issues based on her becoming a Mass Murderer in the TVT HGS season she appeared in, plus how erratic she acted in a randomizer not too long ago. She also speaks in this color.

Appearance (either use an image or post a description): Average-ish height, slim-to-average. Light skin, dark eyes. Usually has long hair, but... (See abilities!) Usually dresses in jeans, sneakers, and a black T-shirt. (Also see picture below)
Gender/Pronouns: Female, She/Her.
Personality/Backstory: Amanda is an outgoing and playful girl... who is also a complete klutz. She usually takes this in stride except when she causes an actual disaster, injures herself, or falls into something gross. She has a bit of a wild streak sometimes and makes friends easily.
Abilities: She can change her hair's color, length, and texture at will. She will probably change it every day, even multiple times. (She's also kind of a walking disaster, which doesn't necessarily count as an ability.)
Other (things like text color and whatnot): Any red in her hair is probably either purely coincidental or because she thought it looked cool on the hosts or something. She speaks in this shade of blue.

Name: Ada Lovelace

Appearance: See above; she also has a heart-shaped metal disk thing on her chest. It's her Soul Drive, which gives her physical form. Her digital form is a transparent blue hologram.

Gender/Pronouns: Female, she/her

Personality/Backstory:

Backstory: Ada Lovelace is widely considered to be the first computer programmer, having worked on Charles Babbage's proto-computer, the Analytical Engine and figuring out that the machine is far more capable than doing just calculation and tried to publish the first algorithm that would've been carried out by it. Unfortunately, as somewhat expected of someone who got sick often in childhood, she died of cancer at the age of 36 in 1852. Cut to the modern day, a mad scientist managed to resurrect her in an unconventional way by tracking down her lingering soul with some necromancy and uploading it on the net, giving her life in the digital landscape. Then, they would transfer the files that contain Lovelace into an invention called a Soul Drive, making her able to manifest in a physical form. Lovelace, curious and excited about the modern day and all of the technological advancements made since her death, shortly left on her own, exploring both the physical and digital realms.
Personality: Lovelace is passionate about technology, especially computers, and will go on hours on end discussing them. She loves having these conversations with like-minded individuals and enjoys everything about it. When someone brings up her achievements, she'll be often flattered and often plays her influence down, usually stating that she failed to create the first computer and that they were created long after her death. She has a strong sense of curiosity and wanderlust, best prominent with new tech and whatever on the internet. For the latter, erm, she has seen some rather disturbing things on the internet through sheer curiosity. Lovelace tends to speak in a mix of formality and casual, thus using both Victorian and modern slang as a result. She also has a gambling problem and is aware of it, thus she avoids anything involving gambling, though she can be tempted easily. Overall she comes off as a somewhat erratic but vivid person who's devoted to her passions.

Abilities:

Unlike most time-displaced historical figures, Lovelace is very tech-savvy. She is able to hack into technology efficiently (mainly through her digital form) and figure out any unfamiliar device she lays her hands on.
In her physical form, Lovelace can use search engines within her brain, thus she can Google stuff without the need of using a device when needed.
Lovelace can switch between her physical form and digital form by jumping in and out of electronics. In her digital form, she can traverse the internet and search through the code in order to mess with it. However, that doesn't mean she isn't invincible. She can be affected by malware and anti-virus, which can do some serious damage to her.

Lovelace will speak like this in her physical form and like this in her digital form.
The whole physical form and Soul Drive thing is there to make it more convenient for the Scum to kill her as if her Soul Drive is destroyed, she'll die.
She has a verbal tic where she'll end every other sentence with "beep boop."
Lord Byron is her father (yes really) and if you bring it up, she'll most likely say something among the lines of "Oh yes, he is my father. He's quite a particular man." and not go any further than that.

Name: Mew and Celebi ("Micha" and "Cedar")
Gender/Pronouns: Both are genderless (or "gender unknown" if you wanna be pedantic) and use any pronouns.
Personality/Backstory: The originator of all Pokémon, and a forest fairy spirit that makes sure time doesn't go weird... they're cute little babies who like to play and are fascinated by humankind. Micha also happens to have a huge secret(?) crush on Cedar. Why deity-level one-member species even have those kinds of feels is a mystery lmao
Abilities: Synchronize and Natural Cure, respectively. ... oh wait that word has a broader meaning in this context -
Mew can freely shapeshift into any Pokémon and use all moves learnable by that species, as well as has a funky barrier thing that was made up for Pokémon Snap and then everyone rolled with it forever. Celebi... could time travel, but that ability has somehow been disabled. Both can fly, communicate psychically, use the moves on their movelist, and shapeshift into their "humansona". ... and yes, they've got their "abilities" as the Pokémon games use that term, though what use that would be is beyond us.
Other: Mew communicates in pale pink and Celebi in forest green, unless we forget the color markup and/or are on mobile and don't want to bother with it.
And for anyone not already aware of Cutbug's stance on the subject - no, being a time travel Pokémon has not given Cedar any knowledge of the previous iteration of this game.

Gender/Pronouns: She/Her
Personality/Backstory: Giffany is sweet, peppy, chatty, and optimistic...until she is being replaced. She will resort to anything to keep her current relationship, nothing short of murder.

In 1996, a wayward spirit managed to work its way to a game development studio in Yokohama, Japan. The studio had been working on a romance simulator game, and the main character had already been completed. The spirit had its host, and upon getting inside the computer, .GIFany attained sentience. She immediately acted on her first instinct and started to make the first programmer she could see her own. When the programmer tried to delete her, .GIFfany acted on her second instinct and electrocuted him, presumably to death.

Despite this incident, Romance Academy 7 managed to hit shelves, and .GIFfany was purchased by her first boyfriend. Things went well until he decided the game had inspired her to gain a real girlfriend, driving .GIFfany into another murderous rage. This time, however, she was defeated, sealed back into her game, and shipped her off on eBay. How many boyfriends did this cycle repeat for? Seven. Poor .GIFfany never understood that she was only meant to be a simulator.

When she came to Gravity Falls, she was purchased by Soos, and promptly went psycho when he left her for Melody. Unwilling to lose an eighth boyfriend, she followed him to a pizza place at the town mall and possessed the animatronics to trap him. Soos defeated her once again,, but this time, it involved the destruction of her disc, forcing her to attach her code to an arcade machine.

The Fragments managed to track her down and capture her in a flash drive, forcibly shutting her off. She doesn't realize how much danger she is in due to her properties, for she makes the perfect host body for a resurrected virus. Should she fail to escape this game, she could very well be rebirthed in a new form...
Abilities: .GIFfany has the power to manipulate electricity. Her body can produce up to nearly 50,000 volts any given time, and can release it in concentrated blasts. When she needs to move indiscriminately, she can shrink herself down to a spark and move within wiring and electronics. When she enters an electronic device, she can take it over and make it do as she pleases.

Her hair color and texture can change as camouflage in the overworld, is this due to a bug or her having an octopus man for a father in Romance Academy 7?

Her primary weakness is rubber. Get her stuck in it and she cannot use electricity or even move.
Other (things like text color and whatnot): Is bilingual, Japanese and English. Her body is composed of pixels, a thick shell that releases the spirit inside her if it's broken. Speaks in #ed7fac.

Name: Kirby and Elfilin

Gender/Pronouns: Male for both.
Personality/Backstory: Kirby is a pink puffball-like creature from a distant planet called Popstar, who defends his planet and friends from various threats. Elfilin is a small, floating rodent-like creature. They met in a strange, abandoned world, and Kirby has to protect Elfilin from a faction named the Beast Pack, who want to capture him for unknown reasons. It is later revealed that he is a part of a destructive, murderous alien named Fecto Elfilis that once invaded the civilization that once lived there, but that civilization captured Fecto Elfilis, and eventually used Elfilis' powers to create a planetary-warp technology. Elfilin then split off from Elfilis 30 years after that moment, and has been on the run. Ultimately, Fecto Elfilis is defeated by Kirby, and the remnant of Elfilis' soul is absorbed by Elfilin, who accepts the spirit as a part of him. Kirby is rather optimistic, outgoing, friendly, and loves to eat. Elfilin is also outgoing and cheerful, though can occasionally show nervousness.
Abilities: Kirby has the ability to inhale objects and creatures and copy their powers. He can also puff up and float. Kirby can also partially engulf an object and use the object's powers to his benefit after a jaunt at the New World. Elfilin can fly, and open up portals.
Other (things like text color and whatnot): Kirby speaks in pink, Elfilin speaks in teal.

Gender/Pronouns: Ben is male and uses he/him pronouns, while Casey is agender and defaults to they/them pronouns.

Personality/Backstory: Ben is a 12-year-old geek from 1988, while Casey is a research-class AI from the far future who is conveniently outfitted with combat capabilities. One day, while on an expedition to 1988 for a research trip, Casey was imprisoned inside a cassette of "Dancing Queen" after a casual run-in with the anti-human AI terrorist network who had followed them to the past in an attempt to rewrite history. Oops. In a series of eventful events, Ben found the tape and befriended Casey. Since then, the duo has been protecting/protected Bottle Bay, California from a horde of cheesy technology-themed baddies.

As with any stock Saturday morning cartoon kid protagonist, Ben is upbeat and idealistic, if a bit immature. In comparison, Casey is more mature and serves as Ben's guardian, but they still like to have fun.

Abilities:
Both: Ben and Casey can communicate with each other via telepathy. For seven minutes at a time, the duo can fuse into a single being known as LO//KEY, who has traits of both Ben and Casey. The fusion is increasingly taxing on both Ben and Casey and can only be used once a day.
Ben: Ben has no superpowers on his own, but he is a good sprinter and is relatively proficient with technology.
Casey: Casey can interact with the physical world with a hard light projection. They are trained in martial arts, and can fire energy blasts from their hands. Casey's scarf is stretchy and can be manipulated like an appendage. They are physically tied to the cassette of "Dancing Queen" Ben keeps inside his Walkman. If it's destroyed, so is Casey.

Other: Ben speaks in orange, while Casey speaks in glowing sky blue.

Name: Cassie + The Corruption, who self-identifies as Ashe
Appearance (either use an image or post a description): see above image, plus they also wear a red skirt, black socks that go halfway up to the knees, and black-and-white sneakers. When covered in the corruption goo, they're mostly pitch-dark purple except for two, hot pink, glowing eyes and a row of triangular fangs at the mouth
Gender/Pronouns: He/they for Cassie, It/they for Ashe
Personality:
- Cassie's a protective loner, generally out and vigilant to protect others, but is a bit off his rocker somewhat, given that the Corruption goo kinda degraded his mind a bit.
- ...mmh, yeah, Ashe. Formerly hellbent on infecting the world (for...what reason), now resigned to being Cassie's protector, and its generally pretty formal and curious of what the world has to offer, whilst capable of being VERY protective towards Cassie.
Backstory: TLDR of this is that the Corruption tried infecting the world, Cassie ran away all the while, then when the latter got cornered, confronted it on a rap battle and won, causing reality to break and reset, then he gets yeeted into one killing game where eventually the Corruption is given an epiphany of its advances to its previous goal and decides to turn a new leaf in response, aaaaaaaaand then both get yeeted out of the KG for whatever reason facilitates that
Abilities:
- Cassie wields an immaculate singing voice, able to hold notes for a long time and just generally has a beautiful, enchanting voice
- with Ashe's assistance, Cassie also posesses inhuman strength and durability, can make his hands into claws with the goo, and can even create illusions and conjure large, spider-like legs from his back

Name: Pierre

Gender: Male, He/Him

Backstory: Pierre was born at Schonhausen estate, Normandy. His Father, Pierre Sr., was a noble landowner and former military officer. Pierre briefly pursued law, but soon resigned his positions after pursuing some women too. He briefly served in the military, and took over the family estate in his mid 20s. He went into politics as a royalist, and served in the legislature, but after the French Revolution of 1848, he moderated his policies, but still advocated against the single French Nation State, claiming it would destroy Norman Sovereignty. He soon changed his mind, hoping to use the single French Nation to control the increasingly powerful Burgundy. He also briefly served as ambassador to Russia. He was appointed Minister President of Normandy when King Marcel of Normandy, faced with a budgetary crisis, had to bring the controlling Pierre back. Pierre immediately said that if the legislature didn't approve the king's budget, he could legally use last year's budget, which was the king's budget. He then did so, angering the legislature. The king then dissolved the legislature. Then Pierre restricted the freedom of the press, and this annoyed everyone. He stayed Minister President mostly because the King was worried if he removed him, a liberal might get in. He then invaded Belgium and the Netherlands over a succession dispute. He was then made a Count of Pierre-Schonhausen. He then invaded Normandy with help from Italy, and survived an assassination attempt. At this point, everyone hated him, but he'd done everything he said he was going to do. He then invaded Germany and unified France, and became Chancellor of France.

He then got into a feud with the Pope, tried to subvert the constitution of France to ban socialism while turning around and doing socialized healthcare. He then invaded Germany again and took Alsace and Lorraine, a decision which he later regretted, though for ultimately very little reason. He first opposed colonialism, seeing it as unprofitable and potentially hazardous, and then suddenly decided to take over part of Africa and South Asia. Then, the new Emperor of France abruptly died of throat cancer. Pierre then got into a fight with the new Emperor and got fired. He was elected to the legislature almost immediately after being fired, but got so angry about being taken to a second ballot by a Social Democrat that he refused to take his seat. He's been angrily retired for a year now, and is currently 76. Oh also he's in modern times now because presumably he yelled at a time travel researcher until time travel got invented.

Personality: He's constantly angry, incredibly spiteful, and often preemptively backstabs people, whether out of paranoia, irritation, or convenience. Every morning, he has to think of someone he hates so he has a reason to get out of bed (to spite them.)

Abilities: He's very French, and can do French things, like speak French, and undercook meat. He can also make people do what he wants even if they hate him because he knows what they want and can dangle it as a reward.

Personality/Backstory: After being bitten by a radioactive human, this Rosy Maple moth gained the intellect and the physical strength of a normal person! The Rosy Maple Moth is the smallest of the smilk moths, and is native to the East coast of North America. This one, after the Incident, became a superhero, making use of their small size and flying abilities whilst being human-average in terms of strength and intellect.
Abilities: Small. Flying. A bit smarter than normal.

Gender/Pronouns: he/him
Personality/Backstory: A laid-back guy who left his boring home for space! Well, in a world with space pretty much entirely explored. He's from Betelgeuse, and now he sleeps in the Aloha Oe, pretty much working alongside Dandy and QT as alien hunters. (They register the aliens, not kablam them.) He bides his time with the ultimate pursuit of pleasure. Despite his claims, he's probably less useful than Dandy himself with alien hunting. He's rather messy, to the point QT, pretty much an advanced vacuum cleaner, doesn't even bother cleaning his room. He also only really brushes his teeth, and hates water to the point he only licks himself clean, which results in the smell of fish.
Abilities: Spraying katsuobushi on all his food. Certain cat instincts. Running apace with another person on adrenaline. If you don't get it, he's pretty much normal, besides his body.
