CARTOONS - ~okami~ - 01-22-2021 General cartoon discussion here. They can be animated films, shorts, or TV shows. RE: CARTOONS - Tre - 01-25-2021 My binge watches of choice these days (which are almost always animated, save for a few special cases like The Queen's Gambit) have been Adventure Time and Batman Beyond, both on HBO Max for you US folks On the Batman front: we're currently on S2 E8, “Hooked Up,” featuring the return of a villain named Spellbinder that's capable of hypnotizing people through what we'd recognize now as projections of augmented reality (albeit with some nebulous technological magic that makes it so there's no external device needed aside from his big ol’ eye thingy). Last time we saw him was during Season 1, in an episode where he uses his invention to fool his victims into committing crimes while believing themselves to be on grand adventures; he uses his daytime identity as a school counselor/therapist to choose his marks, and his first appearance leans into the idea of the characters (including Batman himself) in two places at once that remains visually inventive and distinct. A live-action adaptation of Beyond is a long-standing desire of mine, and characters like him are part of that appeal — the crew would be able to pull off some impressive stuff with the right effects crew and budget. With Adventure Time, we're on episode 19 of Season 1, “The Duke,” featuring the first appearance of the eponymous Duke of Nuts. Always had a soft spot for the lad, and here we get our first hints that Princess Bubblegum's whole “benevolent ruler” shtick isn't quite as pure as it appears. Girl seems hellbent on getting this mans dead over a bit of pudding, I mean, come on now. (At any rate, at least we aren't on the level of petty seen a few episodes back with “The Witch's Garden,” with the donut hag from that one being beyond any level of reason. You know how there's that theory that audiences hate jerks more than they do outright villains? Living proof, right there.) RE: CARTOONS - ~okami~ - 01-25-2021 Nice. As for me, I've been meaning the binge The Simpsons. Probably the classic seasons (1-9). Also, sorry for the doublepost! RE: CARTOONS - EeveeGirlChey - 01-26-2021 I've been watching a lot of SpongeBob. I don't binge a certain season, but I tend to binge whatever episodes I feel like watching from seasons 1-4. RE: CARTOONS - Tre - 01-26-2021 ⬆ ah yes, the genuine "Nickelodeon circa 2005" experience. we love to see it in other news, I miss Bravest Warriors (technically Season 4 was so long that it was essentially a second run of the show as an actual series and I only got midway through it, but they switched animation studios and got a bunch of new writers, so even though it's the same show it just feels different. most of my fondness of the show is for the first three seasons and the minisodes, including the one above, which is less than two minutes long but lives in my head rent-free for reasons that should become especially clear upon viewing) (tag yourself I'm Danny) RE: CARTOONS - Kennifer - 01-26-2021 I have a lot of animated shows I enjoy watching but my favorites are Bob's Burgers and Futurama. RE: CARTOONS - ~okami~ - 01-27-2021 Futurama is one of my faves. Which reminds me... I need to finally watch Disenchantment RE: CARTOONS - Kennifer - 01-27-2021 I need to watch part 3 of Disenchantment. Actually I should just rewatch the whole thing while I'm at it, since part 2 came out during a time when I was pretty mentally distracted and I love the last half of part 1 anyway. RE: CARTOONS - CrystalMemoria - 02-03-2021 I've been meaning to check out Star VS. The Forces of Evil. A friend of mine is really into it. I watched the first couple of episodes and it was OK, but I'm expecting it to get better once I watch more. RE: CARTOONS - Dookie - 02-04-2021 My favorite animated show...That's complicated. My favorite animated comedy is The Amazing World of Gumball, both for it's clever writing, unique setting and characters, as well as the fact that I hold many fond memories with it. My favorite animated drama is Dora The Explorer. I literally cried. RE: CARTOONS - Whistle - 03-02-2021 I think Akira is now my all-time favorite animated film. Probably my favorite film of all time, but maybe that's just because I'm so obsessed with it right now. RE: CARTOONS - ~okami~ - 03-02-2021 Nice. My favorite animated film is The Prince of Egypt. I'm an atheist but I think anyone can enjoy it regardless of belief or lack thereof RE: CARTOONS - Whistle - 03-02-2021 (03-02-2021, 00:38:58 AM)~okami~ Wrote: Nice. Apparently either it or How to Train Your Dragon 1 is DreamWorks' best film. RE: CARTOONS - ~okami~ - 03-02-2021 Yeah it's weird to think they did 2d animation and musicals once. OK, so Trolls movies are musicals too but you know what I mean. Plus I'm not interested in the Trolls films RE: CARTOONS - Whistle - 03-02-2021 Who even is interested in Trolls?! RE: CARTOONS - MadeOfMilk - 03-02-2021 Fucking hell I need to finish Green Eggs and Ham. I kinda forgot about it for a while. A shame too, since it's a good show. |
