The mook catches fire upon impact, being knocked back with significant force. After a short while, it vanishes like the rest of them.
Suisei roll: 5
The mook takes a clean headshot from Suisei's rifle, disintegrating no more than a second later.
Mrs. Guillory applauds. "What a show! I see a lot of potential in all of you. Now, I know you're all aching to get to the competition itself, but I do have one minor misconception to clear up.
"Elise, you stated that this tournament was not likely to be a fight to the death. This is half-right, half-wrong. As you may have seen, lethal force is allowed, if not encouraged. However, no competitor will actually die here. Thanks to our advanced arena tech, we can perfectly simulate any combat scenario imaginable.
"With that said, our first battle will be between Mindy and Jasper. All other fighters should evacuate the area, and view the proceedings either in the staff & combatant common room, or with other spectators in the spectator area."

Mindy chuckes upon knocking down the mook with one of her fireballs. But then learning she would be participating in the tfirst fight, with Jasper, she gets pretty excited, ready to knock that Gem right off her block. Mindy turns her attention to Jasper. "What do ya say? You ready to be dealt a hot hand?", she says as she gives Jasper a real cutting look.

The arena shifts. Gone is the classical arena, along with all its predictability and stability. Now, it's different.
Mindy and Jasper find themselves facing one another. Jasper is standing on a flat-topped iceberg, while Mindy is on a similarly-shaped black rock. They both feel the world wobble beneath them, and for a perfectly valid reason. Jasper's iceberg floats in an icy, stormy ocean, while Mindy's rock rides slight waves upon an ocean of lava.
"As soon as I saw you two in the matchup, I just knew you'd end up against each other. Fire and ice; what a classic rivalry. Fire may melt ice, but the resulting water can quench an inferno. This arena was designed specifically with the two elements in mind. Anyway, the rules of this matchup are simple; to win a single match, you must ensure that your opponent cannot fight within a few seconds. Death, unconsciousness, out-of-bounds, whatever. It's a best out of three. Lose two matches, and you lose the matchup. Win two, and it's off to the semi-finals with you. Good luck to you both!"
(OOC: I'll try to make sure no match is over too quickly, but I'll also try to make sure they don't drag on. I'll also wait for both conbatants to post before updating.)
