RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-21-2023

There, I made my decision. They were all indeed Loyalist causes. I didn't have much choice in the matter. I just hope we can undo the damage from whatever results in this mess...

Lucky looks sad, but understanding. For obvious reasons, he knows the power of random chance.

"The deck may be stacked in the Loyalists' favor, unfortunately. It's certainly going to make a coup difficult, but not impossible."

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-21-2023

So you claim they're all low-priority? Fascinating. It's almost like there's... there's an element of chance in this determination metric and there's a slight risk of that happening. Rest assured I'm smarter than you and haven't put any truly Pro-Sendri options in the pile before it was shuffled. Merely some I've wisely deemed lower priority than others, because they're less likely to get results, or are more about setting up for post-victory.

That is, if you're telling the truth about what you received. You could be lying, after all. Also, don't question my wisdom. You're going to have to explain yourself after the victory, and you don't do it to my satisfaction, you're going to be in very deep trouble. Anyway... let's see what you've chosen.

Loyalist Operation #6, Operation Shrimp-Fried Rice, is GO!

Hmm. Aide Captain Frankenstein? Choose one of the other captains, and I'll get you the authority to do an under-the-table audit done of them. It's time for a break-in.

Anyway, the documents you need for the operation are in those filing cabinets somewhere.

Arva Hollow, the De Facto capital of the Alliance, and home to several million citizens. The city under a dome, the city where the Needle, the tallest building in all the Alliance, stands, and atop it, the Alliance's second most important Admin base sits proudly. But beneath the surface, the city continues, a maze of corridors and rooms and buildings, difficult to navigate. And so too does the Needle continue down, to both the Dignitary's Entrance to the Museum of Everything (one of the finest museums in the galaxy) and to the airlock to the great underground farm that produces most of the food for the sector. But far down in that farm, below the rice fields, below the cotton grove, and down and down still, there exists another door that is rarely opened, and not even the Colonel of Admin 13 above is authorized to enter it. Whatever's down there must be important, and if it's important, we need to know about it.

* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock. The Needle is meticulously guarded, even the Terrene Defenders (who are in a hostageship agreement at their nearby base) will enforce the law there, not to mention some of the finest soldiers the Alliance has to offer, and you're certainly not authorized to be using the Needle's elevator. There may be an easier way, if you just think about it. Or perhaps brute force or finesse can be used to get in.

* The airlock opens with little hesitation. The farms are secured, but since you're ranked captain, you actually do have full access to the farm, even if you don't have access to the needle. The problem now is getting deep into the farm without attracting the attention of the farmworkers or the guards who you can see making sure the harvest is safe. While you're technically allowed to be there, you're in the unenviable position of being high-ranked enough for your execution to be used to make a powerful point, and yet low-ranked enough to be disposable. With you trying to find this mysterious door far below which you're neither supposed to know about nor be looking for, you're going to need to figure out a way to get through without getting noted as suspicious.

* You've finally reached the door below, and annoyingly, it won't open. It seems to open by a four-digit keypad code, which is a low-security method, though not one you're actually equipped to deal with. There's also a card reader though, and it's not accepting your swipes, and the door has numerous other security measures and is blast-proof, so it's not like you can actually get in. What a failure of a mission. But you still have plenty of time before you get picked back up, so you should probably think of something you could do to sabotage the Alliance in the few hours you have left to work with.

* And to add to the annoyance, when walking down the street (well, rather the underground tunnel) on your way to leave the city, you're stopped by a guard who actually outranks you. She must work at the Needle, but if so, she's pretty far away from it, and it's strange how she's down here when most of the Needle's internal security never leave the structure itself. Either way, you're going to need to figure out a way to escape her, or else she's going to shake you down for everything you have and possibly throw you in prison anyway.

You may start submitting your challenges now. Captain VF of NI should pick a player to authorize a break-in for.

Fine, I'll investigate the spider. Blixbo.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - PointMaid - 07-21-2023

Victoria Frankenstein's plan
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock. The Needle is meticulously guarded, even the Terrene Defenders (who are in a hostageship agreement at their nearby base) will enforce the law there, not to mention some of the finest soldiers the Alliance has to offer, and you're certainly not authorized to be using the Needle's elevator. There may be an easier way, if you just think about it. Or perhaps brute force or finesse can be used to get in.

Should be easy enough, I think. I'll tell the Defenders guarding the airlock I'm dreadfully worried about them not having enough to eat given the circumstances, and that they need a bit of levity. That being the case, I'll take care of both and provide them some good beer. Unbeknownst to them, it'll be spiked with something to make them very sleepy. When they're not paying attention, I'll make my move.

Rather distasteful, but I'll have to swipe some of the farm-workers' coveralls to blend in. Surely there are some around. ...I'll bring along my usual clothing in a basket for gathering the harvest so I don't lose it, too. Good stuff, far too good to discard.

Yes, yes. I'll... write anti-Alliance graffiti in the farm worker's locker room. What?

* And to add to the annoyance, when walking down the street (well, rather the underground tunnel) on your way to leave the city, you're stopped by a guard who actually outranks you. She must work at the Needle, but if so, she's pretty far away from it, and it's strange how she's down here when most of the Needle's internal security never leave the structure itself. Either way, you're going to need to figure out a way to escape her, or else she's going to shake you down for everything you have and possibly throw you in prison anyway.

Well, that's perfect. Still, nothing to panic about. I'll just insinuate to her that the reason I was down here was to have an affair with someone that outranks us both, and they'd be incredibly annoyed if I was arrested or delayed. And imply that if she tries to test that theory, she won't like it.

And Victoria (Frankenstein) receives the file

...Well. Looks like Blixo is okay after all and is for the coup. At least that's one help.

What it takes to make it in my line of work is to watch people, know their limits, recognize they have a price, learn their needs. I'll browse around, read some of the guards there. They all might seem loyal. But there's always one who's willing to turn away... for the right price of course. I'll find out who's the one such guard who is willing to dissent. I'll even bring along a briefcase with billions of dollars. It'd just be a drop in the bucket for someone like me. I'll present the guard an offer. Let me pass, maybe give me a disguise so I can get by with no issues. Or perhaps have the guard "take me prisoner" in exchange for this money, which is more than they'll get being paid by the Alliance, surely. I'll get in and assure the guard, if the Alliance gives them any issue, I'll use my full power to protect them and get them a better paying job working for me. But if that last part fails and the Alliance executes them anyway, it's just a small price for me. Long as I get in.

Time to spread more of my wealth. Can't believe I have to give away my money like this, but one must do what he can to survive. Again, like before, there has to be that someone who doesn't seem happy with their line of work. I'll find this one person and give them a decent-size bribe to create a distraction so huge, everyone will have to flock to it to see what's going on. While they all focus on that, I'll make my way to the door without any hassle.

Now would be the time to create a ruckus. I've been told I know how to get into peoples' minds and provoke a reaction. I'll start speaking with some of the guards. Again, the people who don't seem all that committed to their jobs. I'll even come up with some bullshit over how bad the Alliance really is. Hit some key points, really get into their heads. Tell them it's time to rebel. And I'll watch as the angry guards riot. It will cause all kinds of destruction. The more loyal guards versus the dissenters. It will create a huge firefight which will surely gain the attention of the more higher-ups. And maybe if things go real well, we'll gain some deaths, even claiming a few of the higher-ups if we're lucky.

With the riots going on, I'll take a weapon from one of the fallen guards just in case. I'll try to bribe her. Hoping her loyalties are wavering. And if that doesn't work, might have to use lethal force. The riots are already happening. She'll just be seen as another causality. Now I can just make my way back without anymore further incidents, while all the chaos happens behind me. And by the time things settle down, I should be long back to base.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-22-2023

Operation as conducted by Cpt. Frankenstein
  • Concern and offers of drink for the Defenders go well, defending the Needle's surface portion gets boring, and when you're Protectorate Hostages, even more so. Even some Alliance guards are drawn away too, leaving the Needle loosely guarded enough that you can slip away while they're all distracted and/or drugged into ineffectiveness, and take the elevator to the lower levels.
  • You disguise yourself as an Alliance Hand-Harvester, with a crop basket with your personal clothes hidden in it. You do end up having to hide them under a layer of tomatoes so as not to look suspiciously non-busy, but overall this works fine and you get to the locked door.
  • Your on-the-spot thinking is... certainly something. You have neither paints nor any clear way to get them without leaving the agriculture center and going to a hardware center to pick up paint, so you end up having to make tomato paste in a blender and paint the walls with that. It's certainly striking and very Anti-Sendri, but it's going to be easy to clean up.
  • Your insinuations only excite her more, the guard clearly thinks she can get something more out of you since you've implied there's an even higher-up person for her to target... she nearly draws her broadsword to start actually threatening you, but then she realizes the politically expedient thing to do is to find you next time and build trust. You escape, but it was closer than I'm sure you'd really have liked.

Operation as conducted by Cpt. Columbo
  • I have no idea how you fit a billion dollars into a briefcase. A billion dollars is a lot of money, even in the highest denominations available, it weighs several tons, and is bigger than a tank. Yet somehow, you fit that all into the briefcase. Your briefcase of localized economic and physics crises is far too heavy to lift, and bulges and creaks ominously. The guards look suspiciously at the briefcase on a push cart you're slowly wheeling down the street with a forklift. It's obviously dangerous. You try to offer it as a bribe, but when one opens it to see what the bribe looks like, the high-pressure cash explodes outwards, smashing against the unyielding walls, pouring through open doors, bending metal, and killing one of the soldiers instantly. It's certainly a distraction, anyway, though not exactly what you were looking for.
  • You use the chaos above to get into the farms, and give a more reasonably-sized bribe to one of the workers, a particularly disgruntled young avian, who immediately ignites the wheat field. The fire rips through the underground farms, filling the top of the building with thick smoke. You, however, are descending, so you avoid the worst of it. An excellent plan.
  • Using your few hours, you attempt to provoke a riot. Against all odds, you, a mere captain with little influence and even less name recognition somehow manage to talk a few guards into halfheartedly killing a commanding officer and another guard who they don't particularly like... which they fail to cover up, three of them are killed immediately in the ensuing skirmish, and the survivor says that a captain "wearing a yellow shirt or something" was dissenting in exchange for a less bad penal colony assignment. At least they didn't get your name.
  • The guard smirks, takes your bribe, checks and counts the money, and lets you go. Smug: "Nice doing business with you."

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - wingedcatgirl - 07-22-2023

Nyanfiltration :3
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock...
Lucky spends an hour or so people-watching in the area, watching everyone who goes in and out. He's looking for a someone who 1) traverses the airlock frequently and predictably, 2) is even a little bit laxer about security than average around here, and most importantly 3) is friendly to cute little kittycats.
Once he's found a mark, the actual infiltration is simplicity itself - he waits for them to make a trip inside and just hops on their shoulder cutely as they enter. He's their shoulder cat now! So friendly and cute and endearing and not at all concerning to security!

* The problem now is getting deep into the farm...
Luckily for Lucky, he is a kittycat! Nobody worries about a kittycat running around a farm, cause they're all just there to handle the mice! He pounces a few mice for realsies on the way in for good measure. Covering his alibi and getting a nice little snack in at the same time.

* What a failure of a mission. But you still have plenty of time before you get picked back up...
Oof. The shoulder cat trick seems like it should get past this door too, surely...? But if not, then Lucky's only recourse will be to go around important-looking surfaces and knock important-looking things off of them.

* ... a guard who actually outranks you...
Oh, would you look at that, Lucky has a sudden case of the zoomies! He nyoom! He zoom! He already in the next room! As a cat, he's much faster than any silly twolegs... and if he does get caught, he always has his backup plan: the kitty eyes. ... and if that doesn't work he has biting and clawing and tearing. But hopefully the kitty eyes will be good enough. So cute. Don't you want to just let him do whatever he wants forever?

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-22-2023

Operation as conducted by Cat. Lucky
  • Part one goes easily. The Terrene Defenders don't know about the ordinary cat who somehow holds a captaincy in the Alliance, and the actual Alliance forces, while vaguely aware, certainly don't immediately recognize you as "oh yeah you're the famous cat", so you eventually get through with a particularly lax guard... except the elevator starts going up and you can't reach the buttons. You're delayed substantially by the elevator being shuffled around several floors before you actually get where you need to go. You look longingly at the excellent sunbeams on the Needle's residential floor. They must wait... for now.
  • Part two, of course, also doesn't go too badly. The agriculture district isn't supposed to have an infestation of anything, it's supposedly very clean and industrial. This has not deterred the mice or the mid-sized insects and other arthropods, of course, and you mete out a great deal of Alliance-Style Retributive Justice on those law-breakers. Though, unfortunately, you do get hit by a blast from a sprinkler, which is obviously not fun, but it doesn't delay you any.
  • The most important-looking nearby place you can access is the museum, where you go around damaging the mineral displays, and topple several temporary storage jars in the back of the entomology wing. Someone's going to find a giant centipede in their apartment a few days from now. However, you do attract a number of tourists who take pictures of you. After all, millions have seen the Needle and the Museum of Everything. Not nearly as many people have seen you. This does mean there are several witnesses who can place you here if pressed. Hopefully there's no need to press about it.
  • You zip past the guard... but she manages to pursue you in such a way you end up stuck in a room with her guarding the only exit. She's not fast, by any means, but she's vicious, clever, and more importantly, clearly knows who you are. After all, you're the cat who's a captain! You're a minor celebrity in your own right! She may not entirely be sure how to shake down a famous cat, but she's certainly going to try. So you engage violence mode, and with your catlike (well, actually just cat) reflexes and accuracy, you manage to bite through some important-looking wires in her wrist. It zaps you a little, singeing your whiskers, sending you zipping off in a panic. She drops her broadsword as her hand shuts down, and tries to grab you with her other hand, but by then you're already gone, leaving the smell of burnt hair behind you.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Whistle - 07-22-2023

tThe Secret Recipe
Step 1. Make the guards a special food involving your chef's hat and another guard's face, making the head area into a giant suffocating mushroom cloud, then melt water out of their eyes with a puff of paprika and slather marinara on the ground to ensure a slippery texture.
Step 2. Ask for samples from the farmers for a taste test for a new special sauce of yours. If interrogated, claim that this is community outreach to taste. Get on their good side, if you can. If not, simply crawl though the fields.
Step 3. Using marshmallow sticks and friction, heat the farm to 450 degrees Centigrade. The burning spices will flambé any remaining workers, but the land will be newly fertilized for extra production of spice, as they are best fertilized with the ash of past plants.
Step 4. Confuse the guard by rapping to it about nothing and everything, then hit them with a dash of marinara and place quick-bake bread on the floor; the heat from the farm fire may very well cause them to balloon in size and create some sort of barrier between you and the guard that may be less then penetrable... for a while, at least. Use extra marinara on the ground for good measure, preferably thrown unpredictably. A jar to the face may also knock the guard out.
And there you have it! A perfectly failed plan to infiltrate the area!

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Oggy123 - 07-22-2023

"Do we have to?"

Break-in
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock.

Both try to go through the area, while disguising as random workers and trying to act as inconspicuously as possible and not attract attention. They can act as new employees and just ask for a way in.

Again, they act as inconspicuously as they can, disguise yourself as farmworkers and look for the door.

Well, time to look for some of the Alliance's more important belongings and try to destroy them. Also try to look for some of their weapons. If someone sees them or tries anything funny, threaten them with these weaponry. Then run away with the weapons in tow.

They try to run away and get her off their tails. If she's persistent, they just attack them with their new weapons.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-22-2023

You signed on, so yes, you do have to.
Operation as conducted by Cpt. Beck
  • Your technique of brute forcing your way through with ingredients, pulling hats down over eyes, blinding people with flavor dust and trying to trip them on marinara sauce works great, because literally no one expected that. You get right through the guards and into the Needle before they can do anything about it. There is the slight problem that they're not exactly permanently out of commission and also they saw you physically attacking them, and it was right next to the Needle which is a heavily surveilled area, but hopefully they'll be too confused and blinded to immediately know where you're going, buying you time.
  • You get in and demand your tribute to prepare the finest of meals. One does not argue with a captain covered in paprika, other people's tears, and with a chef's hat with an obvious bloodstain. Nor do two, or the well over thirty workers there that day. They let you have free reign with your plausible excuse and your fearsome appearance, allowing you to reach the door beneath.
  • Fwoosh! You start a fire in the wheat field. And the banana grove. And the cocoa grove. And the corn field. Workers panicking and fleeing, some dying, some escaping, lots of screaming, you make good use of your time. Well, it would be good use of your time except you end up blocking the main exit with fire, and the airlock seals, preventing you from escaping. You end up hiding in a water tank for several hours, which really unbuys all the time you bought earlier. Though eventually the sprinkler systems are turned on and extinguish the fires, not before significant damage is done. A dripping wet Chef Beck escapes the farms.
  • The guard identifies you as the one who started a fight on the surface. She's about to shake you down, but then you start rapping at her, interrupting her threats. She draws her broadsword, prepares to cut you down out of annoyance, and then cuts your soaking wet bread in half as you throw it at her. She is not so lucky with the thrown jar of marinara sauce, which hits her with enough force to knock her flat. You rush by while she's incapacitated and successfully escape just as your pickup is about to leave without you.

Operation as conducted by Cpt. Sony and Cpt. Microsoft
  • You act inconspicuous, and do all kinds of disguise things. This does not gain you access into the Needle Elevator, as the guards are checking clearances, and these ones are very keen to not get called out for violating protocol considering their very important station. The Terrene Defenders are nice enough to let you wait in their... well, it's supposed to be an office, but it's more of a prison that the Alliance could seal them in at any time, but they're letting you wait there while you wait for "your clearance cards" to be delivered. You eventually manage to sneak out and find the other way in, though it is tedious work and wastes a bunch of time.
  • You once again act inconspicuous. The problem is, your disguise works very well and your inconspicuousness leads to you being given an order by one of the shipment organizers to go harvest the dedicated cranberry bog. You end up covered in spiders and with barely enough time to even consider opening the door.
  • Not having time to deal with a quintuple-locked blast door for more than a few seconds of looking and giving up, you rush to find something to sabotage. Your vague "target important things" leads to the museum, and you quickly realize you're probably not going to achieve much damage there without a more specific target in mind or more time, and you're going to be late for your pickup at this rate, so you don't have time. You rush to find an armory and quickly grab as many weapons as you can carry, which is rather a lot. At least the Alliance will have to replace these weapons, and no one's stopping you, you being a Captain and all.
  • You try running, but she's persistent and vicious, lashing out at you with her broadsword. It's no mere chunk of metal either, it's a powerful feat of technology capable of cutting through even the finest body armors with relative ease. She eventually corners you. Sadistic: "I wonder how long you'll last in the Acid Mines? That's what comes of making me run after you like this..." That's when one of you opens fire and the other lashes out with a broadsword of your own. Her armor is strong, and she's a very capable fighter, but she honestly didn't expect you of being exactly as capable with weapons as you are, and she had the arrogance of someone who's never had her shakedowns go this wrong before. She's dead before she hits the ground, and you get out only to see your transport has already left. No one's actually after you right now, and you're not suspected of any crime, so you do manage to escape via a much slower public transport service, which after several missed connections, a night in a terrible hotel, and more money spent than you cared to spend on disposable communicators, eventually lets you get to somewhere where Valdragon feels comfortable enough to send someone to pick you up.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - TenOfSwords13 - 07-22-2023

operation time!
Or perhaps brute force or finesse can be used to get in.

there's gotta be stairs, right? i mean, there's a super-duper-top-secret facility down there, are you saying that a power cut or something will absolutely trap people more important than the Colonel down there? from what i've read, i'm even heckin' allowed down to the farms anyway, and if anyone tries to stop me going down the stairs, i can just show them my rank, say i've been sent there for mildly classified reasons, and keep going before they ask too many questions.

With you trying to find this mysterious door far below which you're neither supposed to know about nor be looking for, you're going to need to figure out a way to get through without getting noted as suspicious.

i want you to take a good frickin' look at me. i am a biological mutation, and head of the PWFIVORBC to boot. i have every reason in the heckin' galaxy to be "concerned about the effects of fertilizers and chemicals on the wellfare of our brave farmers", if i just, say, regularly engage everyone down there who is willing in conversation, i can probably keep myself from being sus.

But you still have plenty of time before you get picked back up, so you should probably think of something you could do to sabotage the Alliance in the few hours you have left to work with.

frick. well, there's probably a control room that can oversee... i dunno... water and light and stuff. let's see if i can frick up some settings, ruin some crops or something. i'm not an expert.

Either way, you're going to need to figure out a way to escape her, or else she's going to shake you down for everything you have and possibly throw you in prison anyway.

ma'am, before i say anything i need to speak with my lawyer, if you can let me call them, that would be great.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-22-2023

Operation as conducted Cpt. Harrier
  • Well, the stairs don't go all the way down, or at the very least you can't find any stairs that go directly to the farm. but you do realize that if the Needle is Authorized Personnel Only and it connects to an entrance to the Museum of Everything, a famous tourist destination, that means you could... just find the museum's front door where everyone else comes through and cut through the museum. You get your hand stamped at the museum (free of charge for our brave Alliance Personnel), find the backmost door, and cross into the farms without incident. Though it does take a while.
  • You successfully sound important to the workers at the farm, and you do seem qualified to make the points you're making. You're definitely of the status to be making them too. Also no one's going to stop someone who appears to be looking out for their safety, and they're either willing to believe you, or believe you're too much of a threat to question you.
  • You look around for the control rooms for the underground farms. It's true it's quite the endeavor to farm all this underground and indoors, and it's actually kind of weird that they're doing this. What's even the point? Sure, there's limited space because the city's under a dome, but the atmosphere outside the dome isn't unbreathable or anything, it's just heatstrokingly hot. Surely they could use the sunlight out there, and just put the plants in a building cool enough to let them not dry out? If not, couldn't they just farm on a more suitable planet for it? It's a strange choice to have so much of the agricultural sector for the sector based here, on an overwhelmingly desert planet. Anyway, you eventually find a control room and tamper with the settings a little. Yields over the next few months will drop as much as 12%, which could be devastating to the local economy and to Alliance Food Distribution in the area. Also you successfully just straight up drown several fruit-bearing cactuses.
  • Curious: "Your Lawyer? You're not under arrest, why would you need to..." and on hearing those words you immediately leave. The Alliance may not have many rights at all, but one thing that's remained consistent is that under most circumstances, if you're not under arrest, you're free to walk around in permitted areas. She has to think for a good while about whether or not she actually has the authority to arrest you immediately after saying she wasn't arresting you and having no clear change in circumstance, or if she the ability to continue shaking you down. She does eventually decide she'd have been able to shake you down, but by then you're already gone.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Kennifer - 07-22-2023

Juniper's Plan
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock. The Needle is meticulously guarded, even the Terrene Defenders (who are in a hostageship agreement at their nearby base) will enforce the law there, not to mention some of the finest soldiers the Alliance has to offer, and you're certainly not authorized to be using the Needle's elevator. There may be an easier way, if you just think about it. Or perhaps brute force or finesse can be used to get in.

Juniper has found that bribery typically works in cases like this, and sometimes in cases not like this. While she's only got a couple thousand dollars cash on her, she also has something else important and desired-- mineral rights. She will offer up the rights to anything extracted by one of her mines for a year. Paltry amount to her since she's got so many of them, but surely worth a lot to the guards, right? A contract signed, and she should be in.

She will just pretend she's here to inspect things. Get a look at some of the crops, make sure they're growing well. Maybe sample a few. If anyone asks why she's going where she's going, she'll pretend to be lost and ask one of them to fetch her a map of the farms, then high-tail it to the door while they're off getting one.

There's got to be computers around somewhere, right? Probably with some important files that people wouldn't want erased, right? whoops there they go, as well as some important operational files. That should take a while to replace, hopefully. Hopefully including any security footage on her as well, that'd be a nice bonus.

"I thought I was authorized to be in here, right? Maybe I've gotten lost. Either way, I was never here." And now that couple thousand dollars comes in handy. Hush money, a bribe to get out.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - LavenderDream - 07-22-2023

Well, that's a shame. Thank you Cpt. Frankenstein for clearing my name.

Operation: Don't Fear the Weaver
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city is reaching the airlock. The Needle is meticulously guarded, even the Terrene Defenders (who are in a hostageship agreement at their nearby base) will enforce the law there, not to mention some of the finest soldiers the Alliance has to offer, and you're certainly not authorized to be using the Needle's elevator. There may be an easier way, if you just think about it. Or perhaps brute force or finesse can be used to get in.

"I'll attempt to offer The Guards the finest silk blankets I can offer! I'll even educate them on all of it's benefits: soft, naturally sourced, keeps you warm... And all of that can be theirs if they let me through. "

With you trying to find this mysterious door far below which you're neither supposed to know about nor be looking for, you're going to need to figure out a way to get through without getting noted as suspicious.

"I'll see if I can find a container of any sort. Then, I'll collect some water from the farm while finding that door. If anyone asks, I'm collecting water samples for a higher-ranked member."

"Time for that water from step #2 to kick in.
I'll pour the collected water on the keypad(If the keypad's waterproof, this will probably be useless, but oh well)
. If I can't get in, no one can."

"I simply inform her that I was selling some of my wares to other members, and that my textiles have a variety of uses, as they could be used for bandages, wound care, pro-alliance flags... I'll even give her a free cloak or two for her troubles."

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-22-2023

Operation as conducted by Cpt. Banks
  • The guards don't really know what they'll do with mineral rights, they don't exactly have a warehouse to store all the ores and things you're pulling out of the ground, and more to the point, they're probably not allowed to be turning in ores for sale. You'll have to sell the ores and bribe them in multiple installments, and they don't exactly trust you to do that. The contract is perfectly violable after all, as far as they know. Who's going to enforce a contract to bribe someone? Certainly not you. You end up barred from the door and after much searching, find a different way down.
  • After getting down, you try the inspection trick. This works fine, until someone asks you about what you're doing and you pretend to be lost. As it turns out, now you look like a food thief. This is a lesser crime than trying to get through the door below, but it's still enough to get them to try to kick you out of the farm. You never even get close to the door.
  • You look around for a computer with something important that might not be backed up on it. You eventually talk your way into an administration office and delete a bunch of tax records and download some ransomware, though the security-footage files you find are noted as being backed up to Admin 13 itself, and quite possibly beyond, so you can't do much about that.
  • Pompous: "I am the law, pay up" is the response you get to your preamble, followed by Annoyed: "Finally." as you hand over the bribe she clearly wants. You get out safely.

Operation as conducted by Cpt. Blixbo
  • Silk is somewhat expensive, and your sales pitch is convincing of its merits. The one problem is the dome is climate controlled so they don't really need blankets or have a way to sell them for a profit. It takes a while to find a guard that'll allow you through in exchange for them (probably the one with grey market connections.) but you do get down the elevator.
  • A container is easy to get. Justifying your presence with "water samples" just leads to them making a joke about you going back to the cranberry bog. You're no technician, and whatever else you say about the Alliance, the water treatment system usually works. You end up having to get a bucket of water (and cranberries) from the cranberry bog, and see many of your smaller, less-smart brethren climbing the walls and workers to avoid the water. Luckily you're short enough to sneak through the wheat and things.
  • You throw your cranberries and water on the keypad. It makes a snapping noise and some smoke comes out, but the door doesn't open, presumably because the numerous other security measures need to be got by. They seem annoyingly waterproof too. They'll probably have to replace the keypad, but beyond that you've done very little damage.
  • Imperious: "I accept your gift, but that is not nearly enough. Mere cloaks? I have a dozen at home. You're coming with me." She smashes you in your many legs with the flat of her blade, and picks you up. Despite your struggles, you end up thoroughly arrested on charges of "suspicion of resisting arrest" which leads to Valdragon having to very carefully and slowly bail you out. He's thoroughly angry about it, and you still hurt from being beaten and being locked in a tiny cell.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-23-2023

I do expect answers from the remaining two of you. Walson. Mac Cumhaill. At least at some point. Each minute we waste here is a minute Liwari or Sendri could catch on and kill us all, after all. It's in your interest as much as mine.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - noodlesnook - 07-25-2023

Tóraíocht an Doras Ceilte // The Pursuit of the Hidden Door
* The first hurdle on arriving in the city…
This reminds Fionn all too much of his exploits with the Fianna. Ah, memories. And if there's anything he learned from that, it's that sooner or later, Diarmuid or Cáilte or someone will come to break him out.
But neither of them are here, so he supposes he'll do the smashing himself. Using his size to his advantage, he forces his way through the guards.

* The airlock opens with little hesitation...
Stealth is not an option for Fionn. Not when he sticks out like a sore thumb. A giant, white, sore thumb.
But he's authorised to be there, isn't he?
He notifies the first guards he sees: Captain Mac Cumhaill has come to inspect the farm, every single millimetre of it. Any obstruction to his duty will be reported to his superiors. Spread the word.

* You've finally reached the door below…
Oh, holy Salmon of-
Wait.
That's it.
Perhaps the Salmon of Knowledge knows the passcode.
Fionn bites his thumb, but finds himself with no knowledge of the passcode and potentially broken phalanges. He lets out a squeal more befitting a five-year-old and reels back, accidentally hitting something.
He turns around to find the wall with the keypad on it bearing quite a fetching dent.
A fetching Fionn-shaped dent, to be exact.
And then it dawns on him.
Oh…
But wait, wait! If the keypad's been broken, perhaps I could take the opportunity to slip inside…

* And to add to the annoyance…
What are you doing here, madame? Isn't the Needle up there?
Fionn looks down at her suspiciously.
But to look intimidating alone wouldn't get him very far.
Or do you mean to tell me you're not actually a guard?” he continues, “How do I know you're not a spy, on your way to deliver intelligence to some secret organisation planning to take control of all the Alliance?
A hand goes to Mac an Luin, sheathed on his waist the entire time. He's not actually planning to use it, unless she gets out her own weapon, but he hopes it'll be enough to scare her.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Florien - 07-25-2023

...We're not waiting any longer for Captain Walson. She receives a demerit for this. Get too many of those, and I don't care, I'll find a replacement from a lower council and have you shot. Understand this?

Operation as conducted by Captain Mac Cumhaill
  • You fight the guards. This works out... surprisingly well, though to be fair, you're big enough to smash your head into nearly every doorframe if you're not careful and a warrior in your own right. You successfully push by and kill a number of them, but you're very much identified, as one of them successfully reports you before you break one of their more important organs. You are now wanted for questioning in Arva Hollow.
  • The guards, for the moment, ignore you. It seems like it's safe... but then they block the way back out. Your criminal activities at the surface are simply too much to let go, despite your fearsome appearance and skills. But they don't close the distance, they're just preventing your escape so far...
  • You strike the keypad and break it with your great strength. This does nothing to disable the cardlock portion, nor any of the other various locking mechanisms, and not only doesn't open the door, but sets off a tamper alarm which screams through the farms. The guards of the farm, who previously sought only to arrest you, move in for the kill. You fight many of them off, but you are bruised, sliced in multiple places, bleeding everywhere, and have multiple bullets in you. You survive... for now.
  • You bring up the guard's strange placement. She looks at you. You look weak and battered, and she knows you're wanted for questioning. She thinks for a good long moment, even as you're keeping your hand close to your weapon. She keeps her hand close to hers as well, while you're caught in a standoff. Finally, she speaks. Monologuing: "...You got me. I'm not supposed to be down here, and under normal circumstances, I might have let you go for that line of questioning. I've found that I can extort people the most out here, and there's plenty of illegal bars here with excellent drinks... but I'm supposed to stick to the area closer to The Needle. But you, you're wanted for questioning... and as big as you are, and as important as you are... I don't think your threats hold water against me. You're wounded, you're not paying, and no one's going to arrest me if I silence you. Resisting arrest, and all that, not to mention what you did to the surface guards. So I think it's time for you to die." She draws her broadsword and attacks. While you would be more than capable of beating her under normal circumstances, you're badly injured and she's a brilliant warrior in her own right. After a hard-fought battle, you triumph, leaving her broken body against the wall, but you are grievously injured, and it's all you can do to limp out of the tunnels and towards medical attention. You survive... but barely, and Valdragon is not happy about how close you got to getting caught, and how he's going to have to clean up your mess and get you pardoned or put on release.

Hm. Some good performances, some middling ones, some poor ones. One didn't give a performance at all. But one stands out above the rest. The most successful among you in fulfilling your goals in that unfortunately failed mission was... Which one of you was it?

The Colonel shuffles some papers over the call.

Captain Harrier!

Yes, Captain Romeo Harrier IV, your plan worked excellently. In particular, your sabotage was subtle and smart, and you successfully avoided scrutiny from the security at all stages. (If anyone makes fun of my alliteration there that's a demerit.) You dared to excel, and excel you did. Gold star, You are much more clever than I was giving you credit for. I'll have to keep that in mind.

His "keep that in mind" statement is worrying, but overall, it seems like the Colonel is pleased about that particular attempt.

By the way, I'm promoting you to major. Normally the hierarchy of political officers is Junior Officer to Captain to Colonel to The CPO, but you can enjoy an honorary rank. It'll give you double the voting power in this particular round of voting. Congratulations, Major Harrier. Now, who's next to be my Aide... Ah yes.

Captain Columbo! You are my aide now, so it is your choice who gets nominated to be the Liason. Let us try to do some high priority tasks this time, shall we?

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - noodlesnook - 07-25-2023

Fionn drags himself back into the meeting room, looking more like an industrial-sized sack of flour that had one too many holes punctured into it than the marble statue he initially seemed to be.
Haven't seen anything like that since Gabhra…

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - Mr. Lee Hammer - 07-25-2023

See? Money can definitely make things move. Anyway, you got it, bossman. Let's see what you people have to say? Give me some good reasons why I should nominate you as a Liaison.

RE: Party To Treason 2: Valdragon's Coup - LavenderDream - 07-25-2023

Blixbo scuttles back into his seat.
"Geez, harsh selling crowd huh? I'll take that into account next time."
"As for why I should be elected Liaison, Captain Frankenstein has made a good point already. I'm for the coup."
