As a stopgap, you can turn off quick reply entirely in your User Control Panel. Obviously this doesn't fix the issue at all, but it prevents you from encountering it.
Further science has shown that this only happens if you quick reply on the last page of a thread. Do what you will with that information 🤷♀️
