...Metatton was looking for gloves that might've been used then, wasn't he? Actually, that makes sense that he would take the opportunity to wash his hands if he thought we were closing in on gloved folks, had forgotten to clean his gloves of syrup, and wanted to be sure his hands were, literally, clean. Explains why the gloves were still wet.
